Ernie Banks Has Passed Away

Ernie Banks, aka "Mr Cub," has passed away at the age of 83, reports Sports Illustrated. Banks spent his entire baseball career, which spanned from 1953 to 1971, with the Chicago Cubs. Read his full obituary at Sports Illustrated.

  2. The patrons of Wrigglyville were known to be decided chilly to African Americans. Their embrace of Ernie was a cultural tipping point and a harbinger of the change in attitudes in Northern Chicago.

    Jackie Robinson shattered the barrier. But there were plenty of foot soldiers to follow. Ernie was one.

    Lets play two, Ernie!

  3. My favorite memory of Ernie is him serenading me with his version of "Tomorrow." Such a great and generous soul.
