Reporter Has No Idea Who Rashida Jones' Parents Are
While the rest of us were watching E!'s red carpet coverage on Sunday, TNT had their own reporters. One reporter told Rashida Jones how "tan" she was. Jones gracefully responded that she's ethnic. See the awkward moment below:
Exactly my thoughts when this rumbled to the surface. Being stupid is fine. Just don't give them a mic and a platform and act surprised at the results.
A friend told me about some Emmy dustup involving bloggers streaming red carpet prattle over the internet. Apparently one of the bloggers talked about how she wanted to rape one of the actors. Do I think this blogger is pro rape? No, I think he/she is an idiot of the highest order in need of a filter, an editor and an education. Oh and take mic and platform away from the moron.
QueenAnne, the girl wasn't even a blogger, just some girl that makes really weird videos on Vine. She not only made a comment about wanting to rape one of the male actors on General Hospital, she tried to grab the breasts of an Actors from The Bold and the Beautiful's wife, and was all up on this one young man that was barely 18.
It was 4 girls doing the red carpet to try and get the young audience to watch, and it seems only one of them had ever watched a soap or known anything about daytime.
It got to the point where word has spread to the actors arriving to SKIP the red carpet, avoid these 4 girls, and that someone in charge was basically walking them threw interviews with whoever he could, including actual daytime bloggers who were trying to do their own interviews.
Is this the first time this chick has ever seen Rashinda, no she is not tan, that is her skin color. I didn't know who her parents were when she was first on Parks, but could tell she was mixed.
This chick was apparently a Deal No Deal model, needs to just go back to that.
Oh man I don't' think I can watch. I am cringing just reading this. I just think Rashida is gorgeous and good people! Love her! Anyone ever see "The Getaway" on Esquire TV where she and Chris O'Dowd are touring London. Oh man it's hilarious! I want to be friends with both of them!!
I know that was a definite faux pas, but it reminded me that my bi-racial friend used to tan at the beach where we lived. She is very light-skinned and thought she looked better with more color. Also, strangers used to ask her what color she was. It actually made me angrier than it made her because she was so used to dumb questions like that.
Who the hell asks anyone what color they are?? I mean seriously!! I am interested in our orange-americans- like lilo and chris noth's wife. They are ORANGE! What is that about??
LOL @ orange-Americans! To answer your question, very stupid people ask you what color you are. I also used to get asked that in high school. I'd forgotten about that! I'm Jewish and at the time had dark, curly hair and a very olive complexion. I remember telling one person that I assumed I was white, but wasn't sure because I had never asked my parents.
Karen, as the Mother/Grandmother of racially mixed children, it's never easy to characterize. When my oldest was born I was told to put a check mark in the "other" box of a form. That pissed me off.
We used to say "mixed", but I'm not fond of that one. It's too close to mixed-up.
Bi-racial is too close to bi-sexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Now I say racially diverse. I like the word diverse.
It is less about race obsessed because I think most of us know that mixed race people can get tans and get burned even but more being against ignorant red carpet "reporters" we can only imagine the gaffes that pair were up to all evening and the thing is Rashida's response implied she was offended. I think that you just don't ask mixed raced people about that kind of thing just in case they might take offence and really it is not a subject anyone cares about.
If you are not up on everything about the people going to be on the red carpet 1. you don't deserve to be in that job and 2. if you can't be bothered to do your research just ask "what are you wearing" and leave it at that. I mean someone interviewing Martin Short and not knowing his wife had died. Inexcusable.
So there is some unwritten law that you don't comment about skin tone or tanning of mixed race people, even though we know they can tan, and we are not race obsessed? I'm not defending idiot red carpet reporters but don't think this is even close to someone asking about someones dead wife and the only reason we are reading about this 'incident' is because we are race obsessed.
I also don't think Rashida's response indicated she was offended at all. I think it was a normal response when being complimented on what a nice tan she has and she has probably used that line before, more matter factly "I'm ethnic."
I think the male host was particularly rude after Rashida said she was ethnic by replying 'yeah, me too' in an eyeroll kinda way. Being a thick cunt is one thing, but being rude is not good.

I like Rashida's dress, even though I don't usually like deep vee cleavage it seems to work here, it's refreshingly different look
