Scott Stapp Assassination Threat

Scott Stapp, former Creed frontman, is in the news again, this time for threatening to assassinate President Obama, TMZ reports. Stapp had escaped from a mental facility last month, and his sister-in-law called 911 after she saw him cruising around his neighborhood, shirtless, on a bicycle. The sister-in-law told the 911 dispatcher that Stapp was claiming that he was a CIA agent, and that he had been given a mission to kill Obama. Stapp's wife told the 911 dispatcher that Stapp had supposedly found CIA documents online, printed out 400-600 pages, stuffed them in a book bag, and rode off on his bicycle. When the police caught up to Stapp, he told them that his wife had stolen $6 million from him and had stolen his truck, which was why he was riding around on his bicycle. Police did not think that Stapp showed enough signs of mental instability to warrant a psych hold, so for now he is free to roam the neighborhood on his bicycle.

  1. A) This is sad and yes, I have a family member who's just this crazy, so whatever.
    that having been said
    B) Do we *know* that he's not actually a CIA agent? Have you seen the news over the past week? The CIA is frickin' nuts.
Mostly kidding, but occasionally say true things [probably not this one] and I often wonder what we dismiss as lunacy. Then again, I have a first degree relative who's legit insane, so it's possible that I am also batshit.

  2. This is really sad. Watching someone who is obviously mentally ill, knowing it is likely that they will do harm to themselves or others and being unable to do much of anything about it. Defining freedom is a tricky business. Commitment of the insane in bygone days was with fraught with abuse and now redefined civil liberties have ensured that some obviously ill/at-risk people do not get the help they need.

    1. We've abandoned them, basically. There's no longer any mechanism in place to facilitate the protection of these people as well as society. It's shameful.

  3. "I'm a CIA agent and I'm supposed to kill the President!"

"Eh, he looks normal to me."

    Yeah, thanks Barney.

  4. I've been where the Wife is, and it is terrifying. I hope he gets the help he desperately needs before anyone is hurt.

  5. If I find out that there's a new Creed album coming out soon and this is all a publicity stunt I'm going to be pissed because the world does not need another Creed album!

  6. I really don't think that this is the case...

  7. How can anyone in law enforcement NOT think he's mentally ill? Oh, wait, was this in Florida?

  8. There is no new creed album out. The rest of the band formed Alter Bridge, with the much superior talented Myles Kennedy singing. They are awesome.

    1. They aught to send them to live at the Ronald Regan library since he's president that cut off mental illness funding.

  10. I cannot believe with a threat like that that the Secret Service isn't all over his ass. They take every threat seriously.

    1. Wonder if they would take it seriously if he had threatened president Bush (when he was running things).

How is it you can get arrested if you say the word bomb at the airport but not if you say you've been tasked with killing the president? Or are they just not concerned about a death threat against THIS president?

  11. The court system has set of checks and balances. If the wife has filed for him to be placed then she will have to appear before a judge. Depending on how heavy that court system is bogged down it could be days or even weeks before she is even heard! They could then put him in a hospital where he will be evaluated and then deemed either sane or insane (or needing a guardian). The wife or some member of the family will need to step up or the state will then take over.
If it is his wife then she will have to be like Britney's dad and answer for everything done to him and for him. It is NOT a fun job and it is a job as you are filling out paperwork, you are going to doctor appointments, you are making sure they are keeping up with their medications and so many other things. You answer to lawyers, court appointed attorneys, doctors, therapists and ultimately the judge who at any time you can be pulled in front of for any reason. You file papers with the court every year and answer for every penny that has been spent.
I live this each and every day of my life and have for the 11 years and will continue to do so until I am either unable or until my son becomes to unstable to stay in my home.
