  2. CNN on The Interview just now:
"Most of the country's largest theater chains will not show Sony's "The Interview," a person with direct knowledge of the matter tells CNN's Brian Stelter.

The decision follows a strange warning on Tuesday from anonymous hackers that people should avoid going to theaters where "The Interview" is playing.

The comedy is scheduled to come out on Christmas Day. Sony does not plan to pull the film. Among the top chains that have decided to not show the movie are Regal, Cinemark, Carmike Cinemas, Arclight and Southern.

  3. @Kno, that bites. I guess it really does make the joke about "if you don't {this}, the terrorists win" somewhat of a truth.

I hate to say it, but it wouldn't surprise me if this is a publicity stunt. Franco pulls specious crap all the time - the batsperm photo, trying to hook up with a 17yo on Instagram, etc. He said on SNL that the hackers released photos from their phones, including one of him wearing women's pantyhose. How the hell would a hacker get your phone photos from Sony? Sony isn't the cloud! Then he said (kind of jokingly) that he wasn't hitting on teenagers on Instagram, it was the hackers. Not funny, Franco.

    1. I don't think Franco has the brains to pull off a publicity stunt that big

    2. Umm seven wasn't snl a joke?

Now, I'm on the publicity stunt train. They ran out of time editing it it failed in test markets so they're targeting the diehard patriotic crowd who will never say no to sticking one to terrorists.

  4. this is what I'd do if I were Sony - put the movie out on DVD, make it cheap and suggest people buy it paying cash (at Target, drugstores, etc) so someone buying it can't be traced. I'd buy it and I'm not even interested in watching the movie. I just resent a bunch of internet terrorists threatening the movie experience (and I haven't been to a movie theater in 8 years). I hate these people.

  5. I wouldn't go see any movie that has Franco and Groben in it so no worries there.

    1. I am not a detractor of Franco but not a fan either and I just don't understand the appeal of Rogen. I presume he's a writer who gets to star in his on projects so he's very smart in that regard. Had no plans on seeing it myself.

  7. What's worse than censorship? kowtowing to censorship
    Thru self-censorship.

Pulling the movie is bullshit. Not showing the movie is bullshit. And if the movie is a turd, it's now a gold plated turd with a place in the history books.

Censors never win in the long-term. Ever. By attempting to suppress it - and having Sony capitulate - the end game just got upped significantly.
