Ansel Elgort Wants You To Know That He's Straight

Apparently Ansel Elgort is being plagued by gay rumours? I don't remember reading about them (or much about him at all, for that matter), but here is what his Twitter feed looked like this week:

I didn't know it was in question, but thanks for clearing that up for us, Ansel!

  1. what were his parents thinking naming him Ansel? The kid is destined to be something left of center....

  2. His father is a famous photographer Arthur Elgort. Maybe he wanted to name him after another photographer Ansel Adams?

    2. Dundun : I thought the same! I thought about Ansel as a middle name if we have a boy. Unfortunately most of my heroes have unfortunate names. ...

  3. They should have just gone all out and named him Hansel.
Bit the bullet and googled, he was Augustus in The Fault in our Stars. He was recently tapped to play real-life gay pianist Van Cliburn in a forthcoming biopic. I guess that explains his out of the blue tweets?

    You're welcome.

    1. @sugar Yeah, that was the story. There have been a couple of BIs about him on CDaN recently but they haven't made it over here to my knowledge.

  7. Ansel is a variant form of the English, German, and Spanish name Anselm in the English language.

Ansel is unusual as a baby boy name. Its usage peaked modestly in 1906 with 0.006% of baby boys being given the name Ansel. It had a ranking of #854 then. The baby name has experienced a fall in frequency since then, and is now of sporadic use. Among all boy names in its family, Ansel was nonetheless the most popular in 2012.

  8. Can't believe what a bunch of pussies we have become. Almost any comment made must now be followed up by the obligatory clarification or apology to any perceived group that may or may not have been offended by the original comment no matter how innocuous it may have been.

  9. No idea who he is but haven't you "made it" when the gay rumors start? I realize that sentence doesn't make sense now...

  10. Typical. "Being gay is cool! I'M absolutely NOT gay though, ugh no way." Sigh. So many Twitter posts like this these days.

  11. To me he sounds defensive. If you're not, you're not. Period. Don't placate.
