What's going on in your world today?

  1. Office party. I didn't realize it was today so I didn't eat anything unless I was forced. The office bitch and the office not as bitchy sat in a corner together like it was fucking Mean Girls. I really hate this place.

  2. At gas station, trying to figure out which credit card we can use for gas, as in, which one has credit available. This sucks, but its temporary.

  4. I went to a holiday party on Saturday and I woke up yesterday with mascara all over my sleep mask, my eyelashes crinkled to hell, and a sore throat that is ruining my life right now.

    1. Well lady, wash the sleep mask, wash your pretty face especially well, put on your best cream and massage gently into eyelashes. Then have some nice hot tea with a piece of chocolate for your throat, and take 2 tylenol. Oh and feel better:)

    2. Don't take Tylenol if you've had alcohol in the past three days. Tylenol and alcohol = liver damage up to liver failure. If Tylenol was approved for market today, it would be a controlled substance. Just because it's been over-the-counter for decades, please do not misconstrue this to mean it is safe.

    3. It is frightening some of the drugs that people take without a second thought that can be extremely dangerous. I stick with plain old generic aspirin anymore.

  5. Still in bed. It's cold, in L.A., at least it is in the house. (Considering turning on heat for first time this season.).
My commitments for today are canx, so I'm going to have to figure a new best use of the day. So many to choose from Im kinda overwhelmed in my head. (So I distract myself here)

Anyone ever have eczema? This is my first time. It's severe!! On my hands. I got the steroid cream RX. Didn't help much, now stings too bad to put on. A neighbor said she used to get it and only way was to let it dry and peel off. This is contrary to all the moisturizing tips. I started to try that way, last night I gave in to vitamin E oil and gloves- the pain was overwhelming. Any thoughts?

Two of my siblings have eczema- I'm so sorry! I'm sure you've heard this all before but what helps them most is hydrocortisone based creams. Avoid long hot showers etc and any allergens. I've heard specifically that certain foods like soy and dairy can aggravate eczema. Also, have you had allergy tests done?

    2. You might try applying salt water to the affected area, two of my family members say it provides a lot relief.

    3. @Lady H
Thanks so much for responding! (I know ur under the weather too- I like Auntlickys RX-lol)
YA, I'm doing those things (even had house SUPER CLEANED) BUT I havemt don't the allergy test yet. (Scared-plus hassle) I think it's a good idea, and great suggestion, I think it's time. Tx!! Sincerely Hugs. Hope u got some tea and chocolate. (I crunch my eyelashes at night everyday I wear mascara- I'm lazy at night. (They "usually" survive.)

Thanks bunches for ur suggestion. I hadn't heard of that yet. (I read Himalayan salt and Epson salt Soaks in tub). But I'm going to try the salt rub here in a few. I can do this fairly easily. Tx! Again!!!

    5. I had really awful eczema on my hands to the point where they are all cracked and bleeding

      • don't use soap - find an alternative. In Australia we have a brand called QV and it's fantastic.
      • keep your hands out of hot water. Showers should be warm and wear gloves when washing up. Cotton gloves under the washing up gloves will help
      • don't wear moisturiser and gloves. By GP tried this with me and then my dermatologist said NO
      • limit the moisturiser you use on your hands and don't use fragranced moisturisers.

I've had eczema since I was tiny but my hands were by far the worst.

I use diprozone (spelling is probably wrong) steroid cream if they're REALLY bad but I've found that being really strict with keeping my hands away from hot water and soaps get my hands back to normal.

I hope this helps - I know how much it sucks!

    7. I had a horrible problem with dry skin & eczema when my thyroid went wacky and my blood pressure shot up to the sky. I got my blood pressure back to where it should be, and I'm on thyroid meds and the eczema went away. I still have some dry skin but I just use coconut oil for that. You might check to make sure your BP is good. When your thyroid goes off track it can effect all kinds of things with your body. Stuff like hair loss, lethargy, brain fog, weight gain insomnia. If any of that sounds familiar you might want to get your thyroid checked. With the coconut oil you can use it anywhere on your body (get extra virgin coconut oil). It has no smell so it shouldn't irritate your skin (and you don't smell like tanning lotion). You can cook with it too. Hope this helps.

    8. I get an eczema called dyshidrosis. Little blisters all over my hands that break open and seep and itch like CRAZY! I have scratched or rubbed my skin raw and bleeding too many times to count because nothing will soothe the itch at its worst. Occasionally a rash would spread body-wide, and back in the day they'd give me a steroid shot, but now that is no longer a recommended treatment (although it worked better than anything else they'd try). I've had numerous Rx topical steroid creams and ointments, too many to remember, but for me the one that works best is clobetasol; I've used it for about 16 years now. OTC cort-aid type things stung too much and did not help! Everything I tried that "didn't help" seemed to make it worse! Even sensitive-skin products like Aveeno. For me, when I need moisturizer apart from my steroid cream, unscented and simple work best. Creamy Vaseline for one, Working Hands to a lesser degree but better than ordinary lotions. Scent-free shampoos and conditioners, Tide Free detergent. Ivory hand soap. Absolutely no latex. Also, because my condition is more common in high-strung individuals, identifying stress triggers is important. For me that was hard to accept, because it often was worst in the morning, or the itching pain would wake me up with unbearable intensity, and you'd think that sleep-time is low-stress time, but my brain never turns off, so my stresses are always there. I can see looking back that my hands are worst when I am otherwise tense. Like my body needs to punish me extra for my mind feeling stressed, thanks a lot!

My type may not be your type, but good luck with what you're dealing with! It is SO much more than dry, peeling, chapped skin!

    9. dont itch or scratch, most importantly!! the rash breaks out after you scratch it. avoid nightshades (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers...bell and spicy) . use apple cider vinegar to kill the itch. then put on oil...olive oil worked for me but you can also try coconut oil, jojoba oil, safflower oil. DONT scratch or itch. keep moisturized with oil at all times. I had eczema on my lips and kept lip gloss on it//went away. also take a zinc and fish oil supplement. drink kefir. all of these things helped clear up my eczema. also avoid sugar.

  6. Trying to find a great price on a 15" MacBook pro for my hockey playing son, and to convince my husband that said son needs one (son is paying for most of it) seeing as he is taking exactly one course a semester in school while pursuing his "dream" career. $1699 at BH Photo seems to be the best after 3 freaking hours online.

  7. Okay, just read everyone else's comments and feel so shallow. Lady H, take lots of Vitamin C, the sore throat'll go away. AuntLiddy, I hope things turn around soon for you :)

  9. Cats! I'm attempting to keep a kitty. He's now hiding under the bed in the spare bedroom I gave him. Over the night he came out of hiding under a dresser :( used his litter box and I know he played in some blankets. Thank GOD he didn't pee on the rug! I highly recommend Cedrific litter. It covers smells without yucky chemicals and zero dust.
So he's getting better. If he doesn't bring peace to my two cats that don't get along well, he will go to another home. Poor little baby was left outside by someone!

  10. Waiting at the doctors office to be tested for the flu. 50% of my extended family has tested positive for it in the last 24 hours and we were all together for my daughter's birthday on Saturday. Hooray!

    2. @Freidititties. I'm sorry. )-:
U PROB need the "forced" rest. Childrens birthdays and christmas so close don't help stress. (I'm a XMAS baby and my poor mom....now an adult I just want to sleep, but my mom still makes a big deal. Bless her heart). Anyway, it's tirng. Hope ur flu is over fast.

  12. My son had a touch of the flu on Friday but it seemed to pass very quickly, 24 hours or so, hope yours does too @Freudlantis. And @Kat, cats will eventually pee on everything. I had two, one for 19 years. She destroyed 4 chairs, 2 or 3 rugs and I had to have the hardwood refinished when she finally outlived our dog, gave in, and went to Heaven. There is not a cat pee solution on this earth that gets the smell out for good. And I tried everything. She was healthy, just hated the intrustion of a husband and two kids, then a dog, into her previously spoiled life.

    1. You must be doing something wrong because I've only had one cat who marked territory after being traumatized.

      Delete
    2. Cats will mark territory, if they feel threatened or wish to assert themselves. Cats can experience incontinence due to illness or old age and trauma. Some cats will pee outside their box if it's not clean. Peeing is unusual, though, and generally an indication of something else going on.

That said, Odoban is a terrific product for dealing with pet pee / smell. It actually neutralizes the ammonia in cat pee. FWIW.

    3. In college I lived in a house where my bedroom smelled like cat pee central. Someone suggested sprinkling instant coffee all over the rug, then vacuum and repeat the process several times. The inexpensive coffee brands are just fine to use, and this seriously did work for me. But I better add that the coffee should be dry, not brewed. Because then you have two messes on your hands.

    2. I wish he hadn't received so much attention but I think it's quite important to highlight that he was an unstable man and did not in any way represent the Islamic community.

  15. My big accomplishment for the day came this morning. Our min pin tribe was raising hell and we looked out front and there was a beagle running around in our yard. I grabbed a leash and went out and wrangled her, found out her name (Maggie) called her number and let her mom know her furry kid was at our house. It was an older woman and she hadn't even realized that Maggie had gotten out. Another reminder to pet owners. Make sure your fur kids have their collars with current phone # on it. If you can, have your pets computer chipped too.

  16. Eczema sufferers, I have a miracle product. It's called Gloves In A Bottle. Apply it to nice clean hands, even put a little moisturizer first if you want. It forms a barrier keeping water out of your skin as you wash all day. Reapply as needed. It works wonders for me when I remember to use it! Or, if you want a natural version I think it's called Skin MD but the reviews weren't as good and I wanted the quickest fix possible. Look on Amazon bc it's hard to find in stores.
Idk what my deal is but when my hands are in water to long, especially with (even homemade goats milk) soap, my skin is all red, cracked and at the worst my paper thin nails break BELOW the connection line. It is painful!
