Franco and Rogen Pulled From Interview Promotion

In light of a new threat from the Sony Hackers, Sony has pulled both Franco and Rogen from all media appearances they had previously scheduled before the Christmas release of The Interview, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The threat reads as follows:

"Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you'd better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY."

The US Dept of Homeland Security has stated that there is no credible intelligence to indicate an active plot against movie theaters within the United States.

Is it just me, or does the threat sound like it was written by Dr. Evil?

  1. Rogen was on Colbert two nights ago and genuinely was scared and jumped when something on set spooked him. I wasn't sure if it was due to feeling truly scared about the hackers threats or if he was just high off his ass. Either way, it was a good watch.

  2. Threat sounds like standard North Korean-style insults. Childish and overblown.

  3. Agreed - just maybe don't go on opening day...

  4. I just read where theaters are pulling the movie. I can't believe they are actually going to pull the movie. What a bunch of pussies. We can't start letting a bunch of hackers dictate which movies get shown. This is the start of internet terrorism. What's next??

    1. It's for liability reasons. If, God Forbid, something did happen, they'd be facing a tsunami of lawsuits.

  5. This is a COMEDY. These people are insane. What next? Demand a movie is made depicing him as the 2nd coming or else they will attack?

  6. How is this any different from what Anonymous does?

  7. DVD sales rentals will be brisk I bet.

  8. My dislike of James Franco precludes me from seeing this movie, but this is absolute BS. Kim Jon Un sounds like a giant toddler ticked because his mommy said he couldn't have Cap'n Crunch so he destroys his bedroom. Bunch of a*holes threatening another 9/11 just because the movie doesn't make Kim Jon look like The Golden Child.

  9. This whole thing is ridiculous. Put Carrie Mathison on it, she'll figure it out. Ha.

  10. They should release it on demand instead. I would download it just to piss off the hackers.

  11. It sounds to me like a white guying trying to sound like an Asian hacker. Sony fired a bunch of IT people recently. My guess that the person behind this will turn out to be a garden-variety Angry White Male. A lot of it seems to have been done out of a hotel in Thailand, which is full of Angry Western White Guys chasing beautiful Thai girls and boys.

    1. I think so too Nutty. THE Sony? Come on.

    2. @Nutty. Totally!

I was going to bring up this theory tooooo.
(Except I didn know the part that it's been traced to a Thailand location,)

If it's a firmer employee they're also probably pretty scared (now) of the criminal charges that people are discussing in the media. Making it seem like it came from North Korean govt may not have even be their original intent but theyre going with it since the media is leaning that way.

I've also even considered this could be a Publicity stunt. I doubt it, but I thought it possible.

    3. I think the leaked emails were an inside job--someone from IT that was let go is getting even. The threats against this movie though, I think are a publicity stunt that just conveniently tied in. I don't know ANYONE who was willing to spend ten bucks to see that crapfest when there are so many good movies out at the same time.

    4. @Sincerely, Your Friend It's not just any hotel - it's the 5 star St. Regis in Bangkok.. So they should look for someone who got a good severance payment.

    5. @Nutty If it is indeed a disgruntled employee, then they've made a serious misstep in bringing up 9/11. That brings in the big boys of the FBI, CIA and Secret Service. Those guys don't typically have a sense of humor.

    6. @Karen, I agree with you. Whenever they catch the guy - and I feel confident assuming it's a guy - they're going to string him up by his thumbs. Have to wonder if he'll get the hero treatment by some segments of society, as Assange and Snowdon certainly have.

  13. Who knew Sony would be so down in the dumps this year? This whole thing is absurd. You can't make this shit up!

  14. Why can't Kim Jong whatever just buy a Porsche like other short guys?

  15. Maybe I'm just a chickenshit, but when I saw a poll on The Today Show where 71% of viewers would still go see the movie, part of me wondered WHY? If this were a credible threat, would that change the minds of those people? I certainly don't want terrorists dictating our lives, but at the same time, I also don't want to give a big "Eff you!" to someone with a bazooka pointed at my house.

Personally, I agree with Nutty and think it's a pissed off former employee. I also think the movie will end up doing really well at the box office because of all this.

  16. @Karen W. Well said I like your style. In fact, while reading your comment I had my right hand on heart, while in back of my mind the American flag roiled out and the USMC Marchinhg Band played America The Beautiful.

Of course this happened as I tead from under the bed. I'm scared LOL

  17. I've been saying all along I don't think North Korea is behind it. I think someone is getting revenge on Sony. Because why would North Korea be leaking all these "personal emails" to defame people? Wouldn't it be more productive to plant a virus and destroy digital files? They are giving Sony free publicity and making more people want to see and watch don't films so the "terrorists don't win." I just don't get what North Korea would stand to gain?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I too believe this is the work of a fired Sony worker, IT worker, I'm sure. Why can't he just keep releasing embarrassing emails? Why's he gotta go get all terrorist and shit? This isn't fun anymore.

  19. On the plus side... I've loved every last morsel from inside the brain trust.

In your heart, you knew studio execs r dicks... history is paved with dickish stories. But the actual rants have been swoon worthy.

BTW, except for pineapple express I actually like their stoner comedies. No, it's not original but it goes down easier than the last generic RomCom. (Bringing Up Baby is in my top five. No disrespect to the genre of RomCom, just the parade of turds.)

Totally seeing this. Fuck humorless North Korea

  20. Inside job at it's finest. It doesn't take an IT genius to reroute information to make it seem like it's coming from another part of the world. There are so many sites out there to hide your shit, it's not even funny. (ahem...not that I have personal experience or anything....)

  21. Come on they are caving into the terrorists LOL. The CIA should be right on top of any North Koreans in the US.

    1. Actually are North Koreans even allowed to enter the US. There is no US consulate in North Korea so you couldn't get a visa and do they ever let anyone other than government or military people travel outside of North Korea. In terms of legit travelling. Any North Korean spies and assassins would of course have fake South Korean passports.

  22. Exactly the North Korean hacker is probably some 400 pound guy living in the basement of his parent's house eating bacon....ever see the awful movie Gamer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have my doubts these are north Koreans at all. I did have to laugh at the 'see the terrible film Sony has made' line..that fits so many of their recent releases. As for the hacks, we've learned absolutely nothing new or even fun.

  24. A new book has been released about a teacher in N. Korea. She said when she was at this "gifted school" for kids that wanted to work on computers, they didn't even have access to the internet. NOW there are probably people that can do it but not a lot are hidden within the gov'mt I don't believe. This is totally not the government.

  25. Breaking Bews
SONY JUST PULLED THE RELEASE Of THE MOVIE.

  26. Karen agree. Dont fucking tell me where I can and cant go.
