It's mid-November here in the Great Lakes region. It snowed 3 inches yesterday and today's temperature is 19 with a wind chill that makes it feel like -6. It's too early for this.
LOL no worries! I am an absolute sissy and cannot function in extremely cold conditions. Back in the early 00's I spent a couple of weeks in Indiana in the dead of winter. NEVER AGAIN. I don't know how mid-westerners do it. I thought I was going to die.
I didn't have dinner last night so I just ate BBQ potato chips for breakfast. Oh, and a miniature Three Musketeers from the leftover Halloween candy I brought to work.
It was 50 degrees when I drove to work this morning. That's pretty cold for sunny SoCal.
Work is slow today, so I'm at my desk reading a book by NY Times TV reporter Bill Carter called Desperate Networks. It's about all the behind-the-scenes battles between the major networks. I'm only a couple of chapters in, but so far it's really good. The author is also the guy who wrote the book about the latenight "wars" between Leno & Letterman. I haven't read that one yet, but it's on my list.
I know there's a site somewhere that collects and posts blind items from around the web including CDaN. If anyone knows what it is, would you post the addy please? I'd rather go there to read what's not being posted here than give Enty my clicks anymore. Thanks!
Kat, I'm not sure. I saw someone refer to it about a week ago, but only the acronym for the site was used.. like cdan for crazy days and nights. I've never been there because I don't know what the full name is, and just assumed it compiled everything, blinds and reveals, but I could be wrong.
It's thanksgiving!! I ordered my 26 pound turkey today and am starting on my menu. It's also FREEZING and my hands almost fell off as I fed the feral kitties. There are two babies and it breaks my heart so I'm trying to come up with a shelter for them.
Me too Omar. I will be trapping them soon and getting them fixed and all the shots. I'm hoping I can take the kittens and get them homes but it will be hard now that I have cats of my own. I just don't see how I can release them back :(
That's so nice of you, good luck! We have an outside kitty we'd love to bring in for the winter. Sometimes she will walk in the house but if the front door shuts, she immediately runs over to it wanting out.
Kat, a cat and a dog. The dog is old, but I think he freaks the outside cat out so I dont force the issue. Our neighbor has a shed which stays warm and dry-I think kitty stays in there. She's a sweetheart of a tuxedo cat, I'd love to keep her in.
@Kat - I saw something the other day about making shelters for feral cats. You get one (or two etc.) of those inexpensive styrofoam coolers. Flip them upside down and cut a hole large enough for a cat sized doorway. You could put some bricks on top to hold it in place. They recommend cedar chips on the floor to keep bugs out and hay on top of the cedar so they can burrow in for warmth. If you know someone with a dog house (or you have one) you could split up a bag of cedar chips & hay. That's how we always set up our dog house for winter when we lived in a cold climate. Good luck!
It's cold. Everyone is getting reoccurring colds and coughs. I'm so beaten down by trying to access CDAN the last couple weeks that I haven't checked in to see if the new mobile site is up. I think he said Tuesday. Anyone check?
M. Brown: I can't check on my mobile. So frustrated w/ the amount of ads on that site (adblock doesn't seem to help) - I refuse to even try anymore - refuse to make money for a site that, frankly, pisses me off when trying to use it. It's not user-friendly. I can only check on my main system and even that freaks me out w/ all the ads for fear of drive-by-malware (ads are an open source and super easy way of getting malware/virus).
I had a company luncheon today and I was seated next to the elderly billionaire owner of one of our vendors. I am the polar opposite of a billionaire, yet he and I were giggling like a couple of schoolgirls. I love having friends all of ages and walks of life!
Home for lunch too, found out it's not a good day to break in my new Maria Sharapova boots that I've had since last spring. Just a bit narrow, where is a shoe cobbler when you need one. So switching up for the afternoon at the office, back to the land of fin and fur. We don't really notice the cold around here, I think it's -6 C… just know that it's pretty much going to be like this until next May.
Today is my first born's 20th birthday. When they say it flies on by, they are not kidding. I am very proud of the man he is becoming. (now I go cry in a corner, my baby is 20!!!! how in the hell did that happen!?)
Folex Stain Remover has gotten out every stain I've had in my carpet since I started using it 5 years ago. And it's not harmful to the environment! You seem like you'd be worried about that.
Had puzza uno for lunch today. Just right. Its only like 37', but i am riduculously cold which does not bode well for winter. Busy am, inc taking 3 1/2 yr old to art. They used glitter, and since i was there without hazemat suit, im carrying some if it still! Lol. Now laying about, dozing on and off.
Today is a rough day. Up all night in pain, so called the mil to see if she could sit with my kiddos while I took a short nap. She came and took them for 2 hours, which is like a Christmas miracle. Got a fantastic nap in, made some silly putty for the kiddos, now we are going to paint some snowflake art on canvas's to hang up on the walls. Really hoping I'm not getting pnuemonia :(
@rolotomassi it's 1/2 cup of water 1/2 cup of elmers glue. Mix them together and you can add fun things like glitter, buttons whatever. I did sequins and diamonds, because frozen is my life. Then you pour it into 1/2 cup of liquid starch (in the detergent section) mix it together, pour out any extra water. Let it sit for up to an hour before playing, mine was like 10 mins. If it's stringy, just roll it out and voile! It really takes like 5 mins and it entertained for damn near 3 hours.
Have been coughing for five days. Finally went to the doc, and it's a sinus infection. I never would have guessed. But now have the good meds, and will take one more day off work to get well.
Late to the party - spent 53 minutes talking at some chick in the Phillipeans trying to get my Dish "upgrade" equipment to work. Very long story short, she says she's transferring me to Advanced Tech support and instead I get disconnected. I call a local company and they fix me up in 10 mins. I want my 53 minutes back!
I went to the dentist today with a crown that had dislodged (front tooth, very important). Found out it had rotted from underneath and now I need that root fragment extracted, followed by a bridge or an implant, as well as a root canal on the neighboring tooth, a dowel and core crown on the tooth beside that one instead of a cap-type crown it currently has, and something else that costs a lot, but my head was getting fuzzy the longer she talked. So, I went in for a re-glue and came out with a "treatment plan" that is easily half of what I make in a year (~$10,000 of ~$20,000). This on top of an already expensive two months since my older cat got sick; vet bills have been $1300 so far, and will only continue to climb. So today I feel overwhelmed. I'm already very frugal, but cats and teeth are non-negotiable (my cat absolutely is, and treating my teeth as a delayable expense only led to these problems) so I have to figure out a way to make this work.
It's hot. I'm sick, bored and eating homemade fruit icypoles. Gotta get our aircon fixed. I don't know how you all do TWO big holidays a month apart. I'm doing so much shopping, work & stressing just over Chrissy.

ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! It's mid-November here in Sacramento too! ;) (sorry, I couldn't stop my fingers from typing a smart ass reply)
DeleteIt's getting cold here as well, but not nearly as cold as the temperatures you're enduring!
@Rose at -6 degrees, my sentence construction is frozen. Will make more sense in April.

I work from home and am freezing. It's 1:40 pm and only 22°F here-- and I'm trying to avoid any huge electric bills when it's only November.

ReplyDeleteAnother person in the snow & cold club here. I'm on my way into what promises to be an extremely boring meeting about investments. Uggh.
ReplyDeleteJust got internet service - yahoooo! Now I'm waiting for a furniture delivery. They were supposed to have delivered this AM :/
ReplyDeleteUgh. I'm trying to do a 100 order while the power lines keep getting knocked down cause it's so windy. FML
ReplyDeleteJust put the kiddo down for a nap. It's been a really long day so I'm going to take a nap too.

DeleteYes VIPblonde, thank you!
DeleteAGC Maxxy !!
Deleteawwwww crap... sorry VIP - I need read before I type..(or at least scan better)-- it's 6:50pm & it feels like midnite in January
DeleteIt's lunch time and I just saw Santa standing up eating pizza slices off a paper plate at the mall. Don't get sauce on that beard Santa.
ReplyDeleteThick or thin crust? Happy thought: Red sauce matches the suit!
DeleteThere is no way to eat any food involving cheese in a clean manner with a beard (believe me, I married a hirsute dude)

DeleteThat's a great idea @minpin! Thank you so much! Styrofoam should provide some insulation and tomorrow it's only going to hit 30 degrees :(

ReplyDeleteUse Bleach. Any brand will surely take care of that. In fact, you should use some on your duck pole too.
