Mike Nichols has passed away

Director Mike Nichols passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83. His first film as a director was Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. His second film, The Graduate, earned him an Oscar. He is survived by his wife, Diane Sawyer. The New York Times has an excellent obituary that details his career not only on film, but also on stage and television.

    What a well lived life! It's a shame to lose such a talented guy. He certainly made an imprint while he was here. RIP

    Brilliant man. Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf taught me how not to be a terrible drunk - Martha & George were the couple, you never wanted to become - thanks for the education Mike!

    Oh! I just read some articles about his films the other day - offshoot of looking up long term hollywood couples, of which he and Diane were one. This makes me sad. He did some great work.

    If interested in movie-making from his era, I suggest watching the documentary "Casting By." It's a fascinating film and shows you the who's and why's of a time when acting drove the movie making process.

      Thanks @Tina. Reading through his obit on The NYT was an eye opener...quite a few of my favorite films/plays were helmed by him (in some fashion) and I've always thought his relationship with DS was lovely.

    I was thrilled to see him walking out of the Russian Tea Room many years ago. GMA had a nice tribute this morning. I knew he had done a lot of things, but didn't realize he had done ALL THAT. Wow, what a career.

    Wow! Reading his obituary you realize this is a person who really lived a full life and left a very large mark behind. An incredible number of films. Celebrations for his life and condolences to his family and friends.
