Deep Thoughts

What is your signature scent?

  1. It used to be By by Dolce & Gabbana. I've been looking for a suitable replacement ever since they discontinued it, and I think I finally found it! Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black

    2. It's not unisex per se, but it wouldn't seem out of place if a guy wore it :)

  4. Jo Malone Pomegrante Noir. Only in the fall/winter though in the summer I have 3 or 4 I use.

    1. Jessi, grapefruit is one of the ones on my summer rotation! I also got the Wood Sage and Sea Salt this summer and I love it! The Tuberose is also nice. I could go on and on about Jo Malone all day :)

    2. Katydid, I have that on my Christmas list! I've only heard wonderful things about that scent.

  6. L'eau De Issey By Issey Miyake is one of my faves.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I rotate between Viva La Juicy (don't judge me! i smell like heaven in it!) and hello by harvey prince.

  8. Beautiful by Estee Lauder. (I have been wearing this ever since high school!) I wear Beautiful Sheer for my work day, which is a little lighter, and Beautiful when going out in the evening or on the weekends!

    1. I used to work with a girl that wore Beautiful and it smelled freaking heavenly on her. You would practically go into a mindless love trance smelling it on her. I HAD to go try some on myself. I tried it and it smelled like bug spray on me. Wrong body chemistry. On the right person, Beautiful is fantastic!

  9. I got a sample of Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée in my birchbox a couple of months ago and I've only used it once; the whole time I just kept thinking "I'm wearing stripper smell." lol

  10. Daytime Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana
Night time Secret Obsession by Calvin Klein.
And a heady mix of Captain Morgan and Orange.

  11. Never had a signature scent. I rotate a lot of perfumes depending on my mood. Right now I really like Tocca Margeaux and L'Occitane Verveine. Love all Harvey Prince scents too.

    1. I got a sample of the Tocca Florence in my birchbox today. It's a little heavy on the gardenia for me. I really want to try the Giulietta.

  13. Ooh good taste, I use Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. I used to have the very first perfume put by D & G. I change scents every few years. I got a perfume sample in a magazine, I have to track it down but I can't remember the name right now, it was French, if I can find the perfume and it passes the wrist test I am getting it next.

Before Light Blue it was Roberto Cavalli for women in the pretty pink bottle. I still like that one.

  14. Chanel No 5 with a hint of marlboro menthols

    ReplyDelete
  15. Right now Armani Code, but I switch it up.

I loved Indecence by Givenchy and always got compliments on that, but it was discontinued a long time ago.

I remember when everything I had smelled like Obsession and now if I get a whiff of it I wanna gag.

  16. Perfumes nauseate me & give massive headaches. Instead, I rub organic coconut oil all over my body after shower every day and do not use perfume ever. Even the stench of the perfumey deo's make me ill. I use the crystal, which actually works (trust me...I live in a very hot state...that stuff truly works)!

For those who bathe in perfume, for the love of God and every living thing, please don't - especially in closed quarters...ie: when getting on an airplane. I was so sick after sitting next to someone who had on so much perfume...I was ready to jump out of the airplane. And for the guys....too much cologne makes you look insecure. Don't do it. Huge turn off.

    1. LOL. Short answer: I smell like I'm going to the beach everyday. [=

ps. sorry for the perfume rant. was gagging standing next to a heavy-cologned-guy yesterday and had to vent about it, I guess. /grin

    2. I try to be thoughtful and not wear any perfume at all when going to places that ask you not to, hospitals etc or where you are in close quarters like planes or if I know someone is allergic and I've never understood women who wear perfume or men who wear cologne that arrives 10 minutes before they do it is that strong.

    3. People wearing perfume in hot yoga is the worst! Gag! I use skin wipes before to clean all scents off me before going in.

    4. Tina M and Katydid: you ROCK!
A million thank you's for being considerate. It's truly appreciated.

      Delete
    5. Nora, agreed. Overly scented people are rude and gag worthy. It makes me ill too. I have an incredibly sharp sense of smell and my friends are awestruck by how well I can break down the ingredients in food.

      Delete
    6. Nora, feel same way, all i get are red cheeks and a migraine. Some people really take a bath in thei

    7. I have very sensitive skin, so just about everything I use is unscented, but I am able to use Moroccan Oil body cream. When I wear it, I get a lot of compliments. But I don't mix it with perfume.

I also have a highly developed sense of smell, and some peoples' choices of fragrances choke me.

    8. Some douchecanoe ruined a Jason Mraz show for me last month because he was drenched in some godawful cologne. I went to the show recovering from a migraine, which promptly returned. It was agony and I want my $59 back.

    9. Less is always more. Never wear it to any place medical, in my voluntary work. Never seemed to bother people I work with, although we have our own office space. Usually get compliments but I have friends with allergies so you need to be thoughtful.

  17. Red Door By Elizabeth Arden and to take me back to my younger days Jontue by Revlon.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Jontue! I forgot about that one. Loved it when I was young, years ago. I like Rhiyanna's (however you spell it) new scent and one of Mariah Carey's smells heavenly, a few of the others smell so cheap it's not funny.

  18. Depends on my mood. Escada discontinued Sentiment and I've not found anything I like as much.

  19. My first post on AG! Anyway, it sounds lame, but my sig scent is the old school Love's Baby Soft. It brings back nice memories and when people hug me they frequently say I smell good and ask what I'm wearing.

But for adult scents I love Clinique Happy for spring/summer, and CK be during fall/winter.

    1. I remember Love's Baby Soft - wore that in my youth.

    2. Yep, @Tina, me too! Then I randomly picked it up at CVS a few years ago, and I've been hooked on it again ever since. When I tell people who ask me what it is, they are so surprised that it's just plain ol' Love's from the drugstore and not the expensive stuff.

      Delete
    3. That was THE fragrance of my early tween/teen years! About 5 years ago I bought some for Christmas for my nieces (ages 8 - 11). They loved it. My SIL called later that night and said "oh my god, love's baby soft. I feel like I'm 13 again." Smells certainly can provoke memories. Hopefully fond ones.

  20. In the summer, it's Sun by Jil Sander, the rest of the year, either Lolita Lempicka or Eau de New York from Bond #9.

  21. @VIP I feel your pain. I just ran out of mine & discovered Dolce & Gabbana discontinued Red when I attempted to purchase it last night. I'm sad now.

  22. Old Spice. Chicks seem to notice it and like it. I think it brings back childhood memories of daddy coming home from the barber shop looking good.

    1. @Count, This old Brasser I knew would give it up to anyone wearing Old Spice. She said it made her feel special that men like her daddy wanted to bend her over.

  25. AROMATICS ELIXR (Clinique) worn it forever - kinda got tired of it but my fans (family /bf) get very happy when I break it out.
But I had to get me some Tom Ford TABACCO VANILLE. o m g ! (Muey compliments too)
And I've been meaning to get essential oils to make a CHLOE scent.
I did an AROMATICS copy like that and people go Kookoo.

Oh. That reminds me - there's an online site ...."Alchemy_____". I went to their once a month b & m store years ago and bought some scents. But they gave me a sample of "Black Forest" and men loved it. One time a guy on his bike rode by on his bike and I swear, no lie, he slowed up and almost fell over Benny Hill style. He said,"man you smell so good" - we had coffee. Lol.
I'm thinking it sounds like I soak in stuff. But my bros would tell me if that was the case.

    I HEART PERFUME. !!!!

But I do keep others in mind, I know some people get ill from it.

Off to get some of that Black Forest.

rapture brings back memories of high school and college and beer.

  27. I go back and forth between Flowers by Kenzo and Chanel #5

  28. I use a perfume called "Pheromone"....supposedly made with real pheromones to "attract men"....I don't even especially care for the scent, but I swear to you, whenever I wear it, a man ALWAYS comments and/or compliments.

  29. @Nora Nader
I'm gonna try ur method - it sounds really good. Love the smell of a day at the beach- and I like oils. For me they stay well too.

As for Jo Malone - I loo ove the grapefruit! BUT IT DOESNT STAY ON ME ATTTTAAAALLLLL. )-:

  30. And anyone who wears "burrito" is going to attract me.
"Penis snot" I'm not so sure about.

  31. I wear the regular Marc Jacobs. I love so many Chloe perfumes but the scent turns metallic on my skin :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. SYF ok I'm a complete perfume need and feel like you might be too. I buy the full bottles of Jo Malone then buy the sample sizes at the perfumed court online to keep in my purse to refresh after lunch. I like that it doesn't stay too strong for the reasons states above by Nora

  34. Wasn't whore vanilla a highly contested scent during a previous topic??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, there was someone who said that vanilla was strictly for whores and strippers. I referenced it above.

      Delete
    2. I don't know if whores & strippers smell like vanilla. It is more like booze, menthol cigarettes and despair.

  35. Romance by Ralph Lauren, I like that it's soft and fresh and it must smell good on me because if I wear something else people always notice. In the winter months, for reasons unknown I break out my dkny be delicious. I can't walk by the perfume counter without buying a new scent, but those are my go tos.

  40. The only perfume I can wear anymore is made by Bourbon French Perfumers in New Orleans (in the French Quarter). They actually make their own and I can wear theirs with no problems. Regular department store perfumes make my nose run and give me a headache these days. I don't know what the difference is. My favorite aromas are Kus Kus, Festival and Bourbon French. You can find their store online if you can't get down there. They aren't crazy $$ either.

I don't get down there as often as I would like these days. I was trying to explain the bicycles in the French Quarter thing on here yesterday. Where Y'at? http://www.neworleansperfume.com

  41. Preparation Parfumee Andree Putman by day...
Balenciaga Flora Botanica Eau de Parfum by night...

  42. Flora by Gucci

I'm sensitive to fragrances & it's difficult for me to find something that smells good on me & doesn't trigger a migraine. I was heartbroken when Emporio Armani She/Elle was discontinued & I had to find a new scent. Praying Flora is around for a while.
