Over the weekend, Bono fell off his bike in Central Park. Early reports stated that he had injured his arm. However, his injuries are more serious that initially reported. His doctors revealed the full list of his injuries to Rolling Stone. The list is excerpted from Rolling Stone below:
1. Left facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye.
2. Left scapula (shoulder blade) fracture in three separate pieces.
3. Left compound distal humerus fracture where the bone of his humerus was driven though his skin and the bone was in six different pieces. He was taken emergently to the operating room for a five-hour surgery Sunday evening where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.
4. One day later, he had surgery to his left hand to repair a fracture of his 5th metacarpal.
Despite the additional injuries, Bono is expected to make a complete recovery.
Didn't the door on his plane fly off recently? I hope the grim reaper isn't after Bono.

DeleteI heard some comments about why Bono would cancel his week on the tonight show for a little fall, and implying he was a wimp. Obviously the truth of his injuries was initially downplayed.

Apparently he was riding his bicycle in Central Park and he swerved to avoid a collision with another bicyclist. I thought is he riding his bicycle on the streets of NY is he crazy but no he was sane enough to do it in Central Park no doubt one of those courier guys who drive like mad men, that's my hunch. Wonder if the other bicyclist even stuck around its like hit and run almost.
ReplyDeleteBono seems like he is good shape for his age and thank goodness he only plays guitar on the odd song. I am more worried about those broken bones on his face and so close to the eye.
Okay I take that back after reading about what they had to do to his arm, yikes. Good thing he can afford Cadillac health care.

DeleteI JUST heard about the full extent of his injuries on the radio! He was riding a performance bike and swerved to avoid an oncoming bicyclist who may have run a red light (they're not releasing details but the NYPD issued a statement that mentioned bicyclists who run red lights.
ReplyDeleteBicyclists in NY are crazy!!! They run red lights, smack into people, jump curbs, it's so nuts there are special ordinances for them above and beyond standard bicycle ordinances. I was almost clipped by one and the douche yelled at me because I had the nerve to be in a crosswalk. I felt like Dustin Hoffman - "I'M TRYIN' TO WALK HERE!"
They also ride against traffic on the roads.

ReplyDeleteBond certainly has had some close calls lately. I hate to say it, but for some reason this makes me think of the Final Destination movies. But I do wish him a speedy recovery. Those injuries sound awful.
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe Bono was attempting some Aaron Ross or Garrett Reynolds type stunts in the park and crashed. On a more serious note, I hope he recovers quickly and without lingering or permanent damage.

ReplyDeletehe should still feel grateful that he didn't have the kind of bike wreck I had. I was riding a regular ten speed and there was a drainage ditch on the curb, only it was hidden by leaves. I hit it, and the bike basically flipped up halfway and threw me off. I hit the street like a lawn dart, head first. Imagine a person getting a piledriver done to them and that's how I landed. Anyway, it caused a bit of bleeding on my brain that scarred over but never quit bleeding. About 7 or 8 years later, the scar burst and caused me to have a stroke that had me dead in the ambulance for about a minute. It also gave me a compression of my spine that is still there that causes my neck to my legs go numb for a bit every now and then. I'm better from my stroke but I still have no feeling in my arm and leg and it also caused damage to my heart and brain, so the doctors still refuse to release me to work. I'd trade that for broken bones and some nerve damage in a heartbeat.
ReplyDelete(And I am in no way diminishing what Bono has gone through. While I personally don't like the man, I hope he makes a complete, quick recovery. Just remember, bikes are dangerous, yo. A lot of people think since it doesn't have a motor that it's 100% safe, but they are anything but)
