After Ty Herndon's announcement, Billy Gilman was also inspired to come out as gay. He made the announcement in a YouTube video. Congratulations, Billy!
The Ty H was no surprise since he's had George Michael restroom style incidents going back for more than two decades. When I heard he came out I laffed as I was sure we'd settled this during the Clinton presidency.
I'm not into country music, so I didn't know who Ty was, but remember Billy from when he recorded a song as a preteen. I believe each person who comes out makes it a little easier for the next, so good for Ty for making it official, and for Billy too.
It feels like the anti-gay damn is breaking. An overwhelming majority of people choose to be supportive rather than judge people for their sexuality, which I think in turn is becoming a freeing experience for those who are afraid.

I have a lovely story about the Trevor Project. In 1994, the filmmakers were going door to door asking people if they could use their house to film their movie about a gay teenager who commits suicide. My mother in law agreed to let them use her house for free. The film won the Academy Award for short film that year. About 15 years later, I was in a meeting with the filmmakers and mentioned that they used by MIL's house. They told me that when the movie aired on HBO, they wanted to have suicide prevention telephone numbers on screen at the end. They found out there were only 2 such services. One was a person who did it part time on Tues and Thurs evenings, and the other number was out of order. The hurredly set up a phone bank with a few numbers just in case they got any calls. They ended up getting thousands of calls after the movie aired. That spurred them into creating the organization, and now they have hundreds of lines all over the world, plus all of the other services they offer.
I'm not sure either really came out. Everybody but the bible humpers (t missing on purpose) in the south knew about both were since Ty's arrest and since Billy was like 11 and just so "fabulous" it was obvious.
