Wine and Sass Blind Item - SNL 40 Blind #2

One SNL Alum showed up and everyone was honestly shocked.  He didn't stay long and didn't interact with many people there.  Everyone knows this person has had nothing to do with Saturday Night Live since they left but no one, except SNL insiders, know  the real reasons why.  Two things happened to make pretty much the entire cast and crew hate him when he was a cast member.
First thing was he hooked up with the wife of one of the crew members....and he was not at all shy about talking about it so the word traveled quickly and things came to a head.  The crew member quit and he had no cares to give.  Lorne had a talk with him and explained that he didn't want that kind of behavior happening on his show.  He then retorted that he does what he pleases.  This did not go over well with Lorne or the rest of the cast.
About two years later after rehearsal one night he pulled out some photos of himself engaging in some seriously messed up sexual "situations."  We are talking things that on a scale of 1 to 10 on the freak-o-meter would register at 20.  All the crew have always been relaxed and can talk about pretty much anything, but this was something not even they would talk about and seeing it wasn't kosher.  Everyone also found the insanity and overboard nasty content of the photos hilarious and had pretty good laughs at our alum's expense.  This enraged our alum since in his mind, he was the sole reason SNL was still on the air.  His ego was so overblown that he couldn't understand why any of them wouldn't want to see what he has going on. SNL and him "parted ways" quickly after this and most of the cast and the whole company never missed opportunities to take digs at him.  You see it for years after he left the show.
Small hints of shade that never go by name or appearance but skits, comics and just random interview comments in general all point to him and his off the chart fetishes.  The material they got from him lasted years and he knows what's in reference to him every time.  The fact that Lorne allowed it still enrages him today.  The cast always has a closed mouth policy to anyone who is on SNL and has from the very beginning...but that doesn't exclude you from private hits in their sketches.  This alum went down in history as being one of the most epic members of material on SNL.  Ten years after his exit, skits were still being written about his boastings.  Sometime's you really can't make this stuff up!

  1. This has gotta be Eddie Murphy, right? I dunno...

  2. Chevy is out of the running, because it mentions two years, so it has to be Eddie. We also all know he has certain fetishes so... Eddie for the win.

  3. I guessed Eddie for the other blind but this sure does sound like him.

  4. I think it's meant to be Eddie. Anyone know what the hints of shade are?

  5. Even I read this as Eddie. But why on earth would he show people pictures of himself having sex? And really, how bad could it have been that it would shock people who worked on SNL?

    1. Let's reframe your question taking into account it's the 80s : "why on earth would he show people pictures of himself having sex?"

Because cocaine is a helluva drug.

  6. I'm thinking it's someone else. Eddie Murphy was on from 1980 - 1984 and SNL wasn't dependent on one person keeping them on the air at that time. However, there was a period in the...mid 90's(?) where things got really bad for SNL ratings wise. I'm thinking it's someone from around that period.

  7. RDJ. just kidding he was only on one season right? Plus he's a good guy. I read this as Chevy myself. Everyone hated him bad.

  8. It's totally Eddie. Chevy's a jerk, yes, but Eddie's stuff is legendary. There was a rumour that not a little bit of Tracey Jordan's character on 30 Rock had its roots in Murphy. One episode of 30 Rock had Tracey saying he was the only reason TGS was still on the air and he could do whatever he wanted. (That said, Tracey's character was actually somewhat charming, if wildly inept and not very bright.)

  9. Chris Kattan is a good guess and he sort of fits the time frame I was speaking of above. I just remember there was one year in particular that everyone fully expected SNL to be canceled and many jaws dropped when they weren't.

  10. Timing off for Murphy, tho he makes sense. Norm McDonald, Will Ferrell, chris kittain..Darrell Hammond?

    1. I could see it being Chris Katan. Aren't there rumors that he's a prick?

  11. Alt guesses could be Lovitz,Miller,Macdonald?
I know when Macdonald was fired it was a big deal. Fired for not being funny. On SNL. For Not Being Funny. On SNL (can't stress that part enough)
.That's gotta hurt. They certainly weren't too closed mouth about him when it happened.

    1. As I recall Norm pissed off some assholes that were running SNL when Lorne was out. I was thinking Lorne did not agree with it but he had no clout at the time to stop it. Don't think it was Norm. Besides all he did was the weekend update. Hardly a lynchpin on the show. It sounds like someone who must have had something going on for them at least for awhile. Then again Dennis Miller was pretty full of himself and he did weekend update too.

    2. Norm was fired b/c he wouldn't cool it with the OJ jokes and Don Ohlmeyer (NBC big wig) was friends with OJ.

  12. Darrell Hammond is the current announcer. Not him. Can't see it being Ferrell, either.

  13. Not Eddie. The blind says that Lorne talked with him about his behavior. Eddie joined the show after Lorne left and left before Lorne returned. So it's someone else or the writer of the blind didn't do some basic searches on the web.

  14. Besides didn't Eddie Murphy leave because he was on to bigger and better things.

    1. Yeah, and yina, look where he is now! No demand for him!

    2. It's astounding to me that Murphy has dropped so much in popularity. He had such promise and he did some good stuff but then almost disappeared. He should do some stand up here and there. Or maybe he's wealthy enough to not have to work.

    3. Murphy's charm was his street smarts and his edge. It's hard to be edgy when you're a multi-millionaire living in a mansion overlooking the Pacific, the father to 8 children, and have the means to live out your every fantasy, sexual and otherwise. I think he was smart to retire. You could see on his SNL appearance that he didn't have much left to give.

  15. I like the Joe Piscopo guess because the other returning cast members were in skits/sketches, but Joe just sang a Sinatra song while standing in the audience. No interaction.

But I have no other reason to think him, just how his SNL40 appearance didn't involve anyone but him.

  16. The blind is meant to sound like Eddie, except Lorne Michaels had nothing to do with Eddie and never worked with him. Jean Doumanian discovered Eddie, and Dick Ebersol promoted him from a feature player to a major cast member. Ebersol loved Eddie and accommodated him, so he could film movies. I'm sure there were jealous cast members during that time though.
I would say this was Jean Doumanion because she is so hated by SNL brass, but this indicates it was a man. My other guess is Dennis Miller.

  17. It is meant to sound like Eddie and something was seriously off with his part of the reunion show. Does Chris Eliot fit? His daughter was later a cast member and I think he's been back so probably not.
Spade has his buddies but maybe those outside his Sandler/Rock circle can't stand him?
Piscopo is a good guess for the reasons WUWT stated. I never associate him with any SNL "classmates."

  18. Piscopo doesnt suit the timeframe either, he was there in the non-lorne years. Norm McD was one of the main writers of the anniversary show so played a big role. Chris elliot was there only one year.

What about Rob Schneider? I can see him being deluded into thinking he was a big deal on the show. He showed up briefly for the after party, but he wasnt invited to be on a sketch and he always seems kind of sleazy and is often the but of jokes. David Spade was a total player too, but he seems liked by the cast.

And I hate to say it, but what about bill murray. He was barely on speaking terms with the rest of the cast by the time his stay ended, but he certainly carried the show almost single-handedly during the final years of the original cast and by his own admission slept around alot. Later his wife accused him of sex addiction in their divorce. I was kind of shocked he showed up considering his almost iconic success, and he really seemed detached from everyone else, as if his skit was just plugged in, and he didnt stand with all the other SNL anchors. even though his skit was the best part of the night!

    1. Can't be Joe Piscapo because he was on during the Eddie years without Lorne.
Bill Murray is an excellent guess! He was hated by so many for breaking Gilda Radner's heart, especially by John Belushi who really loved Gilda. Murray does fit the time frame. I would also say Chevy Chase, because he is legendary for being a huge asshole, but he has pretty much fizzled out.
