Amal Clooney To Teach At Columbia

Amal Clooney has a new job. No, it's not being George Clooney's wife. Page Six reports that Amal Clooney will be joining the faculty at Columbia Law School in New York to lecture on human rights law as a senior fellow. Amal released the following statement:

"It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool. I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here."

  1. That's it, I need reading glasses. I read this as "Anal Clooney"

  2. at least she has the background to justify it. It's not like they tapped Lohan to teach philosophy or a Kardashian to instruct young minds about Quantum Physics.

  3. Seems like a step down from what she's doing now but it's just one more way for George to turn her into Amal Kennedy Clooney for his amurican Audience. .

    1. I have found that being a good lawyer, assuming that she is considered a good lawyer by her peers, or an expert in a field doesn't necessarily make you a good lecturer. I remember being so disappointed when the man that wrote a book that was considered THE bible in a particular field, he was an elegant author and made a dull topic interesting and digestible was not the best speaker. But no one is perfect.

    2. Tina, you are absolutely correct. I totally didn't take that into consideration. Just because she knows how to do the job doesn't necessarily mean she can convey that in a classroom.

  5. Meh. Visiting faculty... senior fellow. One two credit class that has six sessions and she's done for the year. It shouldn't interfere with her vacation schedule on the Amalfi coast.

    1. Exactly Gweeds. It's great that Amal is taking this on but her level of participation is exaggerated. I don't even think she's teaching a class on her own but essentially guest lecturing for courses taught by the professors.
@sugartits- This is actually good for her career, it's a win win for the school, students, and Amal

    2. If I'm wrong on any of this, someone please correct me. I read that she's not listed as adjunct etc anywhere and that she's lecturing in another professor's course

  6. I have to say, I admire her a lot but I'm not a fan of the name change. I know it's traditional but in this case, she had a very successful career prior to George, why change her name so late in her game? It feels very fame seeking, much like how she's gone from being a serious human rights lawyer to a fashionista with speaking rights.

@LadyH, that was my first thought, too! At least it wasn't Franco!!!

    2. @7 but that's exactly what she has become
      fashionista with speaking rights.
no one could pronounce alamudden anyway and i think george wanted something easier for Amuuuricans to remember

  7. She very much wanted to change her name. I think they really really adore and respect each other. Hope it lasts.

  8. Seems like I saw George hanging out more with Kiebler when they were dating, then I see him with his wife. Weird period.
