    1. It was haunting. I can't bring myself to watch that movie a second time.

    2. Karen, I can't watch it a second time, either. I saw it that one time, when it was in the theater, and I still remember it vividly.

    1. That's the one where she walks off the porch and shoots the guy, right?

    2. That's a GREAT opening and very close to the original.

  5. Naked with David Thewlis has a very disturbing beginning which certainly makes it memorable - first time in my life I was going to turn off a movie so soon because I hated the main character already - but clever device by the screenwriter/director because I had to watch and see him get his comeuppance.

I even gave that horrible Caligula movie 10 minutes - I am still not sure I had a bootleg copy because it was so badly shot, I could have done better camera work

  6. Did anybody ever see Betty Blue (1986)? Now THAT was a memorable opening scene.

  8. Contact: Original theatrical release. There was this beautiful down the wormhole sequence that separated the movie goer from the outside world. It was a beautiful way in which to allow the movie goer to be brought into the film. I've always felt this was a unique experience I wish more filmmakers would employ.

(Yes, I know, quite an obscure reference, but still interesting.)
