Kaley Cuoco Backtracks On Anti-Feminist Sentiments

Kaley Cuoco caused a stir recently when she talked about her views on feminism with Redbook. In case you missed it, the Daily Mail quotes Cuoco as saying the following:
"Is it bad if I say no? It's not really something I think about. Things are different now, and I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around...I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality. I cook for Ryan five nights a week; it makes me feel like a housewife; I love that. I know it sounds old-fashioned, but I like the idea of women taking care of their men. I'm so in control of my work that I like coming home and serving him. My mom was like that, so I think it kind of rubbed off."

Once the quotes were released, Cuoco faced an immediate backlash. She now seems to be backpedaling on her statements:

  2. "I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality."

What is the context that was supposed to be taken in?

"I was never that human being demanding equal rights, but maybe that's because I've never really faced racism."

"I was never that person demanding equal rights, but maybe that's because I've never really faced being gay."

"I was never that girl demanding fair wages, but maybe that's because I've never really faced being a single mother on food stamps."

"I was never that feminist girl demanding the right to vote, but maybe that's because I've never really faced not being able to vote."

"I was never that parent demanding equality in education, but maybe that's because I've never really faced going to a school without Title IX."

"I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that's because I've never really been that young girl who was shot in the head for wanting to go to school."

Thanks for clearing that up, Kaley.

    3. Thank you 7. I want to know how she let this ish come out of her mouth and no one on her team said "hold time", kicked the reporter out of the room and read Kaley the riot act. They're paying Kaley an obscene amount of money for appearing on a show that the trailers show is not even funny.

  4. "I'm so in control of my work that I like coming home and serving him."

I think "feminism" needs to be redefined for the younger generation. It's not about control, it's about equal rights, equal pay, equality under the law. It's not about controlling men, hating men, or being perceived as a "militant lesbian".....You can still be a feminist and come home and "serve your man" if that's what you are into. I feel like somewhere along the road, feminism suddenly got a bad image, what happened there?

  5. 7-11 nailed it. This is how i feel when pepple say oh we dont need unions! Oh really? Familiar with triangle shirtwaist factory fire? Familiar with child labor? And it must be how older afro americans, who marched and protested feel when young afro americans say ive never experienced any bias cos of my skin. These things that evolved in hisyory- era for women, unions, civil rights- they have a long history, littered with heartbreak and death. Dont spout off on shit if u are ignorant of the history. Just stfu.
And katey, kust fui- making a man dinner has zero to do with equal rights and pay under yhe law. Zero.

    1. AuntLicky we don't need unions if companies treat their workers fairly. Sadly that ain't the case. And I've been in two unions.

  7. Eh, I knew what she meant. Her generation was born into what the ERA invisioned, they don't have to deal with gender inequality in quite such an obvious way. And, unfortunately, I don't think it's unusual for girls her age to hear "feminist" and imagine women who get mad when a man opens a door for them, or picks up a check in a restaurant.

    1. ^ Agree with that @Unknown.

She has no idea of what a feminist is, therefore any answer she gives is moot. I think the same is true for a very large majority of the "famous" females that are being asked this question. A more interesting question would be - what do you think a feminist is?

  8. Educating our girls and boys should be high priority at this point. Let's not add bricks to the walls that were coming down.

  9. I think she's trying to be like JLaw. Saying shit, cutting her hair short and trying to get people to talk about her. Yawn. Who let her cut her hair like that? It does not go well with the shape of her face.

  10. In "the biz"?? If we're not we wouldn't understand? Uh ok. Kaley needs to step back. I think she confuses dumb stuff she says with being misinterpreted.
Remember when she said her wedding was "heard around the world" I think she said the same thing about her haircut. Girl, take a seat and quit doing interviews!

  11. + a million Meanie. Feminists are allowed to cook, as well as have a career. I think she must have no idea what the term and ethos of feminism actually mean.

  12. Have you seen Rev pat Robertson s definition?

Can't recall exactly but it goes feminist are women who leave their husbands practice witchcraft become lesbians kill their children and destroy capitalism.

Friend had the quote on a tee shirt which I coveted.

  14. You know what? People wants feminism to be bad. The movement needs to start up full force at least to educate these girls who have benefited from others hard work. A simple thank you can be the start.

  15. I'm a very strong women who has moved pretty far up in a VERY male dominated business. Very independent and strong minded but I love "taking care" of hubs. (He works very hard too and is very successful in his field as well) Nothing makes me happier than doing (not serving) things that make him smile ...filling his tummy, doing his laundry (cuz he sux at it) cleaning house (cuz he is not nearly as thorough as me). He does ALL the number crunching/repairs/outdoors stuff etc. We don't "serve" each other. We do what we are best at and enjoy. We make a good team we both agree our seemingly "sexist" roles (as some would say) are just innate to ourselves. FWIW.

    1. ohh yeah AND "....Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.

    2. p.s.s. someone in the Redbook "stylist" department (and I use that term loosely) should be fired or at the very least have their head examined. I bet even the Redbook readers are shaking their heads at this photo. wth?

  17. I swear in the 1990s when I was a teenager it used to be considered cool to be a feminist. Nowadays every female celebrity acts embarrassed about it. It's like no one understands the concept anymore. "No, I'm not a feminist because I like men." How did these girls even get that idea in their pinheads? That is NEVER what feminism has been about. I don't even know where it came from. Society has been going backwards on this issue in the last 15 years. It makes me really depressed seeing teenage girls today getting the message that feminism means you're a bitch who hates boys.

  18. I have such an illogical loathing towards her ... not sure why, but she really gets up my nose.

Anyhoo, about what she said ... people need to get a life and stop jumping on everyone for having an opinion. So she likes taking care of her man; so what - so do a lot of women; and so too, do a lot of men like looking after their women.

  19. I think I get what she's saying. She's not a feminist in the "activist"sense of the word. She's not fighting for rights like those women who demanded the right to vote. She's living her life, and she's in control of it, so she's not seeing herself as an oppressed woman needing to label herself as feminist.
I've never needed to justify my sexuality, so I've never been a flag waver for gender equality.
I haven't faced being denied opportunity because of the colour of my skin, and so had to fight for race equality.
Neither of those things makes me a bigot or racist. It makes me a person who has never had to fight for those rights.
    I don't consider myself a feminist either.
What I am is a suburban stay at home mother who made the choice to cook and clean for my husband and kids.
I never fought for it, but because others did, I was able to make that choice.
