TMZ is reporting that Jeremy Renner's wife, Sonni Pacheco, has filed for divorce. I know what you're thinking. Jeremy Renner was married?! Yes it's true. The couple have been married for ten months, and share a 1-year-old daughter, Ava Berlin. Oh, wait. So this is the surrogate? I thought she was his surrogate? At any rate, this is firming up to be one ugly divorce. There is a prenup in place, but Pacheco has alleged that it is invalid because it is based on fraud. I think we all know what the fraud is. Strangely, she is also alleging that Renner stole her passport, birth certificate, and social security card, and is demanding their return.
In a completely unrelated note, let's all reminisce about this Variety article on Jeremy Renner's "business partner" Kristoffer Winters.

ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know nothin' about nothin', but if Renner wanted a child and chose this woman to give it to him, you'd think there would be some sort of agreement somewhere that says he gets physical custody of the child. In the divorce filing on TMZ, she is seeking physical custody.
I don't know if Renner is straight, gay or bi; don't care. But I hate what this kind of crap does to kids. Renner's daughter is just a toddler, but you can't tell me this using her as leverage won't continue in the future. This is how entitled Hollywood kids are created.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if the divorce petition was leaked or if some intrepid reporter just had a look since they are public documents? Don't some celebs have them sealed or use alias to keep them private?
DeleteIf leaked, it could be a power play by the wife to get more money more quickly. I'm sure Renner's PR people would rather the proceedings not be played out in the public arena. If Renner has secrets, they may be enthusiastic to keep things on the down low.
Karen- from interviews with him ive read, he is extremely, almost combatently private, so yeah, she probably releasing this to light a fire under his arse. And yes, it is against the law to withhold someones passport from them, but they live together so he can always say, hey it was in the drawer, she cld take it anytime. A he said she said.

DeleteYes the divorce records can be sealed but I suspect TMZ has someone who works in that office or a lawyer tips them off, because if you know the name of one party you can get the divorce petition very easily.
DeleteApparently a divorce petition that named an actor as the wife's lover was sealed - in California adultery is no longer a grounds for divorce and in the old days you would have to name the mistress or boyfriend as a party to the action but now you have no fault so to name a mistress or a lover is not necessary and clearly an attempt to embarrass the spouse and lover.
Well, this certainly blew up in his face.

Right there with you, @Karen W. It's horrible when people use children as pawns in their stupid games, and playing it out on a public stage is even worse. You're adults - ACT LIKE IT. I've always liked Jeremy Renner (particularly because of Hurt Locker and his Bourne role) and I hope he's not a jerk, but the "fraud" thing reminds me of Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney.

DeleteI think the Bob the Builder comment is cute. Renner is the pragmatic guy concerned about function and structure, Winters is the style guy.
DeleteLet me say that many interior decorators have not got a clue about what is involved in building a house and this is a serious flaw, this is when you are more likely to get into expensive problems especially with renovations because so and so doesn't know what for example what a load bearing wall means.
I have to ask (even though I don't care either way) but is the "Renner is gay" gossip based solely on the fact he owns/owned property with another guy? Because in reality I know a lot of people who flip houses or own rentals that have property titled with their business partners. It's not that unusual. Because tbh, Renner is no Brad Pitt. His career as a ensemble player in action or drama would not be affected.

ReplyDeleteI know this is referring to the rumors that he's gay, but fraud to get out of a prenup DOES NOT relate to the marriage or relationship of the parties AT ALL. Fraud is the typical allegation made by a party trying to get out of the prenup, and almost always refers to an allegation that the other party did not fully disclose/falsely disclosed their assets. Ie, "I would never have entered into this prenup had I known his actual net worth was $40m vs. The $4m represented to me."
The alleged reason for this divorce is boring old irreconcilable differences.
I think it depends on the terms of the prenup but in a way isn't she is skirting some dangerous territory, beyond um possible blackmail. This is interesting because if you say the marriage is a fraud, and the court agrees, you don't need a divorce and you won't be entitled to 50 per cent of community property right? Though the prenup would also be void would it not because it is predicated on a legal marriage?
DeleteThere are two separate issues and people seem to be combing them. There is the (1) prenuptial contract and (2) the marriage contract. She is alleging fraud with respect to (1) in order to avoid its terms. Fraud in this sense means what I stated earlier, that she feels something about the *prenup's terms* was misrepresented to her. It does not implicate the marriage or the parties' personal relationship itself AT ALL. It's purely financial.
DeleteShe is alleging irreconcilable differences with respect to (2), and therefore seeks a dissolution of the marriage (ie, divorce). That is a garden variety divorce. Nothing exciting or scandalous whatsoever.
Now, if she alleged fraud with respect to the marriage itself (ala Renee Z), and sought an annulment instead of a divorce, THAT would implicate their relationship and marriage. That would be a much more interesting story because it's very hard to get a marriage annulled on the basis of fraud, and indicates the other falsely led them into marriage knowing they did not intend to perform a vital aspect of marriage. But that is not the case here.
Teddy C has hinted that a few actors were openly gay in Hollywood until they got successful, particularly in the action genre, and then they were forced back into the closet for career reasons because audiences will not accept an openly gay action hero or as a romantic heterosexual lead or that's what Hollywood thinks and are not willing to bet a 100 million picture on to find out. Rupert Everett who is openly gay even tells other closeted gay actors to stay in the closet because he feels it has hurt his career options

ReplyDeleteSounds to me like negotiations went sour and this is why the lady went public. She wants cash and the baby, which leads me to believe she wasn't just a hired surrogate like people thought. Or at least, SHE didn't think she was just a hired surrogate, hence the fraud in the prenup. Just give her some money Jeremy so at least you can stay friends with this woman and the kid has a better chance of growing up happy. You can afford to take the high road thanks to all those action movie franchises.

Meaning he's been with her long enough, that if he is in a relationship with his realestate partner, that she knew about it. I thought she knew all along this marriage wasn't "legit" LOVE! I got the impression she was friends with him but 100% a beard. WTF. I'm sure he has all her legal paperwork so she doesn't take off with the baby out of the U.S. I kinda don't blame him if she's trying to fuck him over and blackmail him after the fact.
