Joan Collins is a Dame

She shall now be referred to as Dame Joan Collins! Page Six reports that Joan Collins topped this list of women who were made the female equivalent of a knight by Queen Elizabeth this year. Other newly-minted dames include actress Kristin Scott Thomas, fashion designed Mary Quant, and poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

  1. I have never gotten the appeal of this chronically overdressed woman. She wears more makeup and wigs than any drag queen, and her talent is miniscule. Props for hanging in there tho.

    1. Liddy, I'm with you. She was the typical sex kitten in the 50s and she was over the top in Dynasty (which was perfect for that role), but beyond that...

She's a survivor though, she works a lot especially for her age.

Mary Quant! There's a name from the past. For those who don't know, she is (arguably) the originator of the mini-skirt.

  2. I love Kristin Scott Thomas! Under the Cherry Moon anyone!? I think Im going to watch that tiny little man in heels this weekend. Movie is so bad it's genius!

Also can we please discuss Kaley Cuoco and her Im not a feminist comment. I hate when women say this. I mean I know she isn't that bright, but that comment, uff dah.

    1. Jessi, i agree about denial of feminism. All is means is uou yhink men and women are equal. Thats it. Has mothing to do with cleaning or cooking or dressing girly, but she's young and perhaps naive, so ill cut her a little slack. Wait til the big boys screw her over on a film deal, she will become a feminist in a nanosecond! Lol

    2. Katy Perrys comment was a personal favourite of mine for its sheer stupidity "I'm not a feminist but I believe in the strength of women."

      Smh

    3. I think we need to school these younger gals in the strides our mothers and to a lesser degree women aroun the ages of late 40's early/mid 50's made.

I remember needing a husband to sign a loan for a business and always being the assistant but not the boss when I was in my 20's.

However much like racial discrimination (which is still here) it's not AS BAD as it used to be. Granted women don't make nearly the same pay as men (and women of color especially have it difficult). But thank goodness that glass ceiling is starting to crack. They don't know how bad it used to be.

    4. I think if you lived through World War II or grew up with an appreciation of it you have to realize that when it comes to democracy and freedom and rights, you have to be ever vigilant to keep pushing the progress forward because you can lose all that hard fought for progress very quickly. I know, my quote is you snooze you lose LOL.

Germany was a democracy that got co-opted by the Nazis in one election.

Ask the women in Afghanistan who are still fighting to go to school or being killed or attacked for going to school.

  3. Kristin Scott Thomas is everything!

Re Kaley - totally agree. That BS about being "housewifey" makes me want to hurl. I love to cook but that doesn't mean I don't believe in equality for women. It's like saying you don't believe equal rights because you've never experienced racism. Knock-knock-Penny? Anything up there?

  4. I guess Her Majesty accidentally overlooked knighting Lindsay Lohan. Again. Oh, well, maybe next time.

  5. I like both the Collins sisters. They enjoy life and don't take it too seriously.

  6. I love me some Joan Collins, but what on earth has she done to earn the honor of KBE / dame-hood / whatever its called? I bet she's got some really tasty dirt on Charles.

    1. She already has the OBE, so this was the next logical step. And what has she done? Well, she created one of the most iconic characters in the history of television and helped paved the way for many British actresses to work in Hollywood AND be able to USE their accents. I think she is fabulous and she brought glamour and sophistication to the masses even when she was fighting in lily ponds.

  7. Yes is Jackie a KBE? And Jackie and Joan got dirt on EVERYONE. Tea time.

    1. Never! If that were true, why would she do movies like Empire of the Ants or I Don't Want to Be Born.

  9. You know between them, Joan and Jackie know where ALL the bodies are buried.
