We didn't have a conventional wedding. We did have the Beach Boys God only knows playing as we were introduced by t he celebrant. Our actual song is "I wanna get funky" by the Beasts of Bourbon which was played after our vows.
Oh my god. My brother's wife planned the entire wedding but conceded that he could pick the music. Such a bad mistake. My brother ended up picking Chicago's You're the Inspiration. Since I was a bridesmaid, I had to get up there and slow dance with one of his frat buddies. It was SO hard to keep a straight face.
Ha!@Lady H! Our wedding was completely a non-wedding, sorta. Just a surprise party where we all had fun. No stress. I really should've sought revenge on my bridesmaid and make her wear a hideous frock as she did to me. I missed my one chance to be a complete bitch where it is socially acceptable.
Mr. Coconut and I have been together, not married, for almost five years. I've never been a wedding type of girl, he's asked about things involving my "dream wedding" and I just said, like, a nice dress I guess? He went to his good friend's wedding a year before we met and he loved that they had "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis Presley for their song. Aww!
But if a wedding happens at any time, I've been thinking of "Stand By Me," the original with Ben. E. King. To me that epitomizes an equal and loving relationship between two people. Mr. Coconut loves it too. And, at the end of our reception, we will have the DJ play "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin because in high school they always closed the dances to that and everyone would make out. No other choice, the song was too long to just sway forever, might as well just go for it.
I eloped so no dancing ever. I would probably walk down the aisle to hard to concentrate and my first dance to desperado. Who knows though, not ready to make that kind of commitment to music ;)
I've always thought my favourite song by Gordon Lightfoot would be a great first song, it is called Beautiful, I think the lyrics are perfect for that day Lyrics Never heard of anyone else using it though, acoustic guitars may not be everyone's cup of tea anymore

I was trying to say... Our first dance was Ingrid Michelson's "The Way I Am". We also exited our ceremony to "500 miles (I'm gonna be)" and entered our reception to "I Believe in a Thjng Called Love" by The Darkness. We tried to have fun with our music.
I think I would like a song that everyone would like to get up and dance to. And we would do it early on. I went to a Lebanese wedding where we were up and dancing before the meal, between courses and after the meal. So much fun.
The Opster and I did the cliche thing and chose Pacalbel's Canon for the walk down the aisle, non cliche "I Do I Do I Do" by Abba on the way back and Fee Fighters, "Walking After You". The lyrics say if things go wrong, we won't run away, we'll walk back to the other person. It really had great significance to us. So far he's stuck with me in spite of some big bad things I've done. Man deserves an award, really.

My husband and I decided fairly laid back people, and we like to think we both have a good sense of humor. Our first dance song was John Prine's "it's a big old goofy world." It's a song I doubt anyone else will ever pick, but the first time I ever heard it I said,"that's going to be our wedding song." It's a sweet song, and it matches our quirky personalities.
PS. I used Vitamin String Quartlet for my pre-ceremony music. One, bc I love it, and two, bc I wanted people to hear the insturmentals and be like, "I know that song from somewhere...is that KANYE (not gold digger, I promise). And my bridesmaids walked down to VSQ's cover of the white stripes, "I can tell that we are going to be friends." :)
Seachica went to a pub after the rugby in Twickenham. Lock in. Angels was on & rugby players were dancing on the bar! Everyone was singing very very loudly! Happy days :)
