Amy Pascal Stepping Down at Sony

Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal is stepping down from her post. The Hollywood Reporter states that Pascal's deal was up in March; after that she will launch a new production venture at the studio. Pascal will also be a producer on the upcoming Ghostbusters film, as well as any future Amazing Spider-Man Films.

  1. Doesn't seem like she's really hurting after the hack since she's got her own production venture now. However a remake of a classic film won't be her best start out of the gate. Maybe that's the punishment?

  2. Once again, the man skates, the woman gets punished so friggin' predictable.

  3. @auntliddy, she greenlighted The Interview, that's why she got the blame. The CEO gave her a golden parachute - I imagine she has a lot of dirt and they couldn't fire her outright. I honestly don't think this one was sexism.

Bummer that she got those lame Amazing Spider-Man films AND the lady Ghostbusters film, though. That's punishment enough.

Oh, and the article is full of crap. No way were they inking this deal for a year before SonyGate. This was a last minute scramble b/c they needed a sacrificial lamb.

    1. @7 of 11: Of course the article is full of crap. There's no way Amy wrote that PR statement in that short period of time. It was written in complete sentences with appropriate punctuation & no misspelled words and/or juvenile abbreviations. :-P

LOL. I know what you really meant, but you left the door open & I couldn't resist. ;-)

      Smooches!

    2. LOL @Bluezzz!

I imagine them vetting it in a huge room with lawyers and studio bigwigs. Do you think a certain lawyer will be there? ;b

  5. That's what happens when Angelina gives you the Death Stare. People just don't make it through that.

  6. The moment I heard that Sony execs brought in Rev. Al Sharpton for a consult after the Pascal/Rudin Obama email banter, I figured she'd be shown the door. One doesn't engage that snake oil salesman and not expect someone to be sacrificed on the pyre.

  7. It's always the woman. Always.

However, as I recall, it was an exchange between Rudin and Pascal. Pascal is a Sony employee, Rudin is not. I'm sure Sony has a stable full of young bucks chomping at the bit (mixed metaphor!) to get Pascal's job. Now, Sony may choose not to back any Rudin-produced movies in the future, but I doubt that. It's all about the money and he has some pretty substantial pictures under his belt.

    1. I know there was something going on behind the scenes with Nikki Finke but never found out what it was.
