The Future of Michael Jackson's Neverland - A Child Molestation Treatment Facility?

Plans are still up in the air for the ultimate fate of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch, but as the property remains up for sale for $75 millions, the proposals for the property are rolling in. Ideas include a shrine to Jackson, a state park, and a therapy camp for molested children, reports Page Six. A local business man put in an offer for $40 million to use the property to help children recover from sex abuse trauma in a serene setting.

  2. I so wish it would be the latter, but my bet is it will become a Michael Jackson Disneyland. It boggles my mind how his death martyred him when the fact is a 35 year old man invited young boys to sleep in his bed, he settled with at least one family of a boy who accused him of molestation, and he would take boys on his tours.

  3. @Seven, I don't think you have to worry about a Disneyland setup. Unlike Graceland, Neverland is very inconveniently located; apparently there's just one twisty mountain road that goes there. It was chosen for privacy, not public access.

  5. I had originally written how apropos but my phone corrected it and then I had to delete and finish walking the dog. A treatment facility would be a good idea but I would feel it somehow tacky to be there given what had occurred in that space. Too much bad juju.

    1. I agree Sherry. Just the association. *shudder*. Off topic, what kind of puppy do you have? (My random play just selected the Dirtbombs "Underdog"). If you haven't heard them, check 'em out. I remember you're a music fan, & they're pretty rad. X

  6. I agree @Sherry. But the state definitely needs to build more of these types of outdoor ranch facilities. In San Diego, I saw a lot of child victims get sent to emergency child centers (like Polinsky) but those get so filled up that I've seen a few instances where they have been sent to juvenile hall until placement opens up. A lot of these centers are in shitty environments and are only for short-term placement.
I actually subbed at one of those ranch camps in Escondido/Valley Center run by the county and it was the hardest two weeks of work that I can remember. Just brutal. I bow down to the people trying to open up another one of these camps, and even more so to the people who work at them every day.

  7. I like the idea of the recovery place for molestation abuse. And i agree, Jackson was/is no martyer, just run of the mill kissie fiddler. It makes me angry when people get all, oh what tragedy. Same thing with Whitney Houston- they arent tragic figures- they are people who had it all and just pissed it away on drugs. The hell with them.

  8. Best thing for kids who are survivors is not a theme park (not that they wouldn't enjoy it), but somewhere to feel safe, build on their attachment issues, & build trust. Studies and experiential knowledge have found animals and set ups like adventure camps, where they build self esteem (like challenges) work best.

  9. Side Note: The wonderful baseball star Jamie Moyer and his family set up a grief camp for children and did a great HBO documentary on it. Check out "One Last Hug" if you have not seen it yet.
