Celebrity Real Estate - Tobey Maguire Flips Out

Tobey Maguire has gotten into the house flipping business. Last year, he picked up a Brentwood house for $8.45 million, and he has just listed it for $10.25 million. The home has quite the Hollywood history; Maguire bought it from Ricki Lake, who bought it from Courteney Cox. The home features five bedrooms, exposed wood beams, and lots of privacy. 1. @Gina Agreed! I like Renner's flip much better. I do like that open kitchen with the mega oven and refrigerator though. Also, if I had two sofas like that, I might be able to actual sit down for once. One sofa for me, one sofa for the dogs.

    2. I'd say a mashup of the two just might produce the perfect LA house--some rooms more insular, cozier and in darker tones; other rooms with more windows, natural light, and a brighter color scheme. As someone who likes to bake, I prefer the kitchen in this place, although the other house's would be better if the fridge was closer to the stove--I don't necessarily want to run all over the damn kitchen just to grab a couple of eggs. The bathrooms are almost a tie; I like the smaller mirrors in Renner's house better (I really don't need to be able to see all of myself in the bathroom mirror; I have a closet door for that), but I like the vanities in this place. Overall, I prefer Renner's furnishings (I like Restoration Hardware, damn it!), but again, using some of the lighter colors in this house. Something nobody seems to do (this seems damn near universal in interior design these days) is use prints or brighter colors--don't be afraid of color in the name of being "tasteful"! It doesn't have to be garish to be cheerful! (Having said all this, I'd still like to know whose idea it was to put a giant B&W photo of a horse's ass on the wall in one of the living rooms of this place...)

  3. I like this wayyyy better than Renner's house. What can I say? I love light. :)

It is a little large, though...I got lost looking at the pictures.

  4. I would be really interested to see what this place looked like BEFORE he "flipped it". This house and property looks absolutely flawless to me. The doorways are all extra wide - so Dad would have plenty of room to drive his Hoveround through without smacking into stuff (who am I kidding, he'd still hit shit). I love what looks like pocket doors between the dining and living area. All very open and easy to maneuver through with a cane or chair.

This kind of house is absolutely meant to be inhabited by more than one or two people. I could put Mom and Dad in the east wing and we'd be in the west. That kitchen and dining room look excellent for big cooking and dining. I really love the privacy wall in front and the cool entrance to the yard. This is REALLY my kind of house for sure.
