Nicholas Sparks Separates From Wife

Nicholas Sparks, author of The Notebook among others, has separated from wife Cathy, announces People. The couple have been together for 25 years. The couple has five children together: three sons, and twin daughters. The children range in age from 12 to 23. Perhaps it's prophetic that he rarely gives his stories happy endings.

  1. I think he's a fellow North Carolinian who live at the outer banks. His books are insufferable IMHO. Give me Ann
Patchett or Kingsolver any day. (Apologies to everyone who loves his film adaptations)

  4. Hos books are drivel to me too. Mr liddy and i were watching last part of botebook- there must hv been nothing else on, lol- and when its revealed he goes there everyday to read to her, i was thinking, boy im not doing that, while mr liddy hugs me and says i wld di the same for you, sweetheart, everyday! Lol. Naturally i kept my mouth shut, lol. Anyway it always seems to be the couples that go on and on about how happy they are- think heidi and seal- that end up imploding. Wonder why?

  5. I've only read one of his books - Susan's Diary for Nicholas, I think it was. Incredibly hokey and the ending was like wtf? I liked the Notebook movie but not for the story, for the chemistry between the actors. The story was very trite, but Gosling and McAdams plus Garner and Rowlands made it happen. There's no way that movie would have worked without their magic.

Anyway.... bummer. 25 years and five kids, that's a lot to lose.

  6. The first time I ever saw my former fiancé cry was when we watched The Notebook. He said "I will always read to you." Awww, how sweet was that?

I still couldn't make it work.

    1. True story. I know a woman who told her mother in law that this book/movie was just like "my story with your son". I'm not holding out much hope that they make it to five years.

  7. His books are formulaic and derivative. He is a condescending asshat. He is the Matt Lauer of authors. I hope his wife gets bank. 25 years of putting up with him should get her hazard pay.
