Bono May Never Play Guitar Again

Bono's bike injury from a few months ago keeps getting worse. He posted a long summation of 2014 on U2's website; Rolling Stone has some of the excerpts, as quoted below:

"Recovery has been more difficult than I thought. As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again...The consequences of this freak accident are significant enough that I will have to concentrate hard to be ready for the U2 tour in fitness terms. As a result I have cancelled every public appearance and decided this missive is all the communication I can manage for the first half of 2015, beyond muttering and singing to myself of course."

You can read Bono's full message here. Let's all wish him a speedy recovery!

  1. I do wish him well, but Bono is being a drama queen....if the Edge could never play guitar again, this would be world-stopping news.

    1. Brenda saw that you were down the other day. Hopefully you've perked up? Sending you a cyber hug and letting you know we here think you're pretty wonderful. I mean, not to speak for everyone but I'm sure most here would agree with me.

    3. Thanks you guys, it means so much....I'm just going through a lot of changes in my life right now and my coping skills seem to be failing me. But life goes on, you either get busy living or get busy dying!

  3. I was about to say the same thing. I saw U2 when they first came out and Bono was amazing but never at any time did he pick up anything more than a microphone.

  4. I've seen U2 a few times and don't remember Bono having any major guitar parts. However he may be the type that writes music on the guitar, but is reluctant to play in public. Regardless, if playing guitar is something he loved, this is sad. Maybe he is a drama queen, but the list of injuring seemed serious to me.

    1. That is the thing he didn't play guitar often and I love rock guitar so to me the more guitars in a song the better, I love it when you got three lead guitars and a bass. But yes if he used the guitar to write that is a loss but I am sure he can adapt. If Stephen Hawking can talk, Bono can find a new way to write songs.

    1. Bwahaha! +1 on that!!! I was sorry he hadn't fallen off that bike onto his great big mouth instead of his arm.

    2. @demandah- lol!
I didnt understand how he was in nyc on his little bike, since he was in London doing the new Band Aid thing all day before.
      Maybe he was sleepy-while-bikey

  6. I love Bono!

He did make a joke of it, though. He said something like "not that that would be the end of the world' or something along those lines. It's not like he's Freddie Prinze Jr learning how to walk again and having his wife tell people it's not as bad as he's making it out to be.

  7. I didn't even know Bono played the guitar. He's no spring chicken and the healing process is probably taking longer than he'd like.

  8. If Bono could remember the nice lad he used to be back when he hung around with my dad I'd feel bad for him.
It's hard to feel sympathy for a tax exile who pretends to be an advocate of charity and giving whilst pocketing profits from his 'awareness' campaigns.
The poor multi millionaire rock star.

    1. I thought Bono lived in Dublin?

    2. Nope. He strategically lives outside of Ireland for more than 179 days a year, therefore pays no tax.
      It's brilliant, but awful too.

    3. Morning/ evening IJU. Wanted to tell you I hope your dad is healing. My service went out so I was unable to send you good wishes the other day.

It's sad that game can change people so much and not always for the better.

    4. But doesn't U2 own a lot of businesses in Dublin therefore creating jobs or is that a pile of bunk too

    5. This is my issue with bono. A tax dodging, RED charity non-sucessful giving to charity, charity.
      He is a scammer
There was an article about how Much money that RED managed to donate to the charities. A negligable amount considering what they had raised. Like-a small enough amount that he could have easily donated it himself, and not done all the bs selling of products.
I also strongly question his wife and her overpriced sustainable "fashion" line.
      HATE BONO.
      HATE.

  9. And still no one knows exactly what happened in this accident..you can believe if someone else caused it we'd know everything. Did he hit a tree, chipmunk, jogger...?

  10. Oh dear god the skys' falling down because Bono can't pick up a guitar! He's the definition of the word pompous

  11. I think people making fun of him for this statement have never been unable to do something they once loved.

  12. Most people have the same reaction: He played guitar?" So its hard for us to empathize. I guess no one wants to hear you cant do something anymore.

  13. He rides a bike? kidding, I didn't think The Edge was a great guitarist until I watched "It Might Get Loud" - I saw Bono once strum an guitar on stage on U2's last tour. It looked like it was a prop for his hands while the band was playing
