I like the following mixed together on my plate: turkey, stuffing, no potatoes for me so something mashed either parsnips, turnips or the mild Japanese yams, so much gravy and I might cheat with a few cranberries because I'm a little sensitive to them.
STUFFING - its my grandmother's recipe and basically consists of the stuffing mix, bacon, sausage, and celery/onions cooked in the bacon/sausage fat. HAHA how can you go wrong?!
I love Thanksgiving so hard! I don't eat meat so I make a fake meatloaf, cranberry sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and mushroom gravy are the staples. This year my husband is making Cornish hens and we are having a sweet potato and kale deal, roasted root vegetable stuffing, pecan pie, pumpkin cheesecake and DEVILED EGGS! Oh, sorry, you didn't ask for my full menu, did you? I can't pick a favorite! I'm so excited!
Im with Van Van and mom's stuffing - sausage and all of the stuffing is browned before resting in the bird. I'm making mashed taters right now just for everyday consumption. Do love da gravy on TG.
My favorite holiday!!!! I love it all, and I have made some mean baked lemon, mustard parmesan brussel sprouts the last two years that is now a holiday tradition. My brothers mash potatoes are awesome too. Horribly fattening since he puts the whole sour cream, cream cheese, butter concoction together. Oh man, I am so excited!!!
Instructions: Trim off the stem ends from the Brussels sprouts. Remove the darker external leaves (discard them or save them for the salad saute). Use a kitchen mandoline or sharp knife (and a steady hand) to cut the sprouts as thinly as you can. Set aside. Peel and mince the shallot. Put it in a large bowl, then stir in the oil, vinegar, and sugar. Add the shaved Brussels sprouts and minced dill and toss to combine. Divide between 4 to 6 salad plates or bowls.
Finely chop the almonds and/or finely grate the cheese. Sprinkle on each serving. ENJOY, betches!
Candied sweet potatoes--basically boiled and chopped sweet potatoes swimming in melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and a bit of orange juice. *drool*
Giada's parmesan baked mashed potatoes are divine. I'm making my first turkey this year. Doing the Barefoot Contessa Accidental Turkey. So stoked! Have to do my last grocery store run tonight after work. (I like to go in the wee hours when no one is there.) I made a fab cranberry relish this morning, and my chocolate chip cookies for the kiddos. I'm relying on my guests to bring desserts. It's kinda killing me, but we're taking my son to Philadelphia on Wednesday for the Franklin Institute and then the Thanksgiving Parade the next morning so I am losing out on a good 24 hours of cooking time. My Mommom is rocking her pumpkin pies. It should all round out nicely. My table looks cute, I must say. Hope I don't eff anything up. LOL.
I love everything about a big turkey dinner! But good gravy is a deal breaker! My grandma makes AMAZING gravy, my mother-in-law, not so much! We are still in the nightmare cycle of having to do 2 thanksgiving dinners, which is a nightmare! To make the best of it, we make sure one is early afternoon (1pm) and the other in the evening (6pm) and make sure to pick and choose what we eat wisely! We make sure to get our fill of turkey & mashed potatoes & gravy at the first stop, but save up for the stuffing & the sides at the 2nd stop! This year, I'm bringing green beans, and a non pumkin pie dessert to each dinner... still undecided what dessert to do though.
Anybody have a good corn casserole recipe? I invited my soon to be ex husband for Thanksgiving with two of my kiddos, this should be interesting. So this year my favorite is most certainly the wine.
I do! 1 (15 1/4 oz) can whole kernel corn, drained 1 (14 3/4 oz) can cream-‐style corn 1 (8 oz) package Jiffy corn muffin mix 1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup butter, melted 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar
Preheat oven to 350 ̊F. Grease a 9-‐ by 13-‐inch baking dish or large casserole dish.
Mix together the corn, Jiffy, sour cream and butter in a large bowl. Stir in the cheese. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake for 55 minutes, or until golden brown and set. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
