Christian Bale is Jealous of Ben Affleck

According to www.comicbookmovie.com, Christian Bale is interviewed in the latest issue of Empire Magazine and talks about Ben Affleck taking on the role of Batman. "I've got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, 'Oh go on... Let's do another.' So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour."

Bale doesn't say whether he was offered a role in Batman vs. Superman, though there was a lot of speculation that he was. Would you rather see him, Ben Affleck, or someone else take on Batman?

  1. Seems more like regret than jealousy.

Bale was offered the role, he said he was done with Batman. Affleck will be interesting to see, but there'll never be another Keaton.

    1. @7, he goes on to say that he should have stopped being jealous by now, but I think you're right that it's mostly regret...or just being sad that he's probably done with the Batman role forever.

    2. It shows how far Afflecks star has fallen that he was a considerably cheaper option for the film!

    3. Yep Batman under someone else's direction won't be the same, Bale got to be the pivotal role in one of the best franchise relaunches or reinventions ever.....he got the accolades and the money. I would not envy Affleck or Snyder.

  4. I like Keaton best too. An amazing performance from someone who was generally thought of as a comedy actor.

As for Bale vs Affleck, we shall see.

  6. I know a lot of people are hating on Affleck, but I will wait until I see him in the role before I totally judge it. I like Christian, but I would have to agree Keaton was the best.

    1. @Daria, I don't think Empire Magazine is the same thing as Empire News. Did you click the link?

    2. To be fair Empire Magazine has been known to publish absolute nonsense. It's no Sight and Sound, that's for sure.

    3. Empire is like what the American Premiere magazine was. I buy Empire occasionally. I bought Premiere every month.

  9. Twenty years ago, I wanted them to make a Batman movie with an older actor playing Bruce Wayne/Batman. Kind of a "superhero comes out of retirement to avenge someone's death" type of movie.

My idea of the perfect actor for that role? Clint Eastwood.

    It would have been awesome.

  10. Keaton was by far my favorite Batman. Bale second runner up.

I think CB is hotter than BA but I'm liking how Ben is bulking up so maybe it won't be all bad

  12. I am hoping it takes a similar approach to the plot of Kingdom Come, where Affleck plays an ageing and less relevant hero. That comic is awesome.

  14. The Christian Bale, Dark Knight Batman films are my favorite. I liked Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer but I wasn't crazy about how over the top cartoony the villains were. The Dark Knight series cuts away the kitsch and takes it to the bone. It's apples and oranges I know because everyone has their favorites. Mine was Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman &Liam Neeson (and JGL).
