Cosby Allegations

Lisa Bonet's Twitter account has been suspended. Before it was suspended, she sent out a tweet on Friday that Hollywood Life managed to capture. Many people think that the tweet is about Cosby. The story has been covered extensively all over this week; here's a post to get all of your feelings on the matter out, good, bad, or indifferent.

108 comments:

  1. Her agent said the tweet was phony and Lisa has never tweeted before and never will.

  2. There are some reports it's not her acct. Regardless, she has distanced herself from him in the years since Cosby. Is it because he disapproved of her marriage to Lenny and her film choices (Mickey Rourke movie). Or is it because she was a victim of his, or became aware of his crimes against others?

    1. That movie role and her relationship with Lenny Kravitz were cited as reasons.

    2. Bill didn't want a pregnant Denise Huxtable on ADW. He felt it would reflect poorly on Cliff and Claire as parents. WTF? These were fictional characters.

There were two Cosby Show reunions in the last 12 years. One, which aired on NBC in 2002 and a TV Land awards ceremony in 2011. Lisa stayed away from both.

  3. I knew about this in the 80's, when I was a kid. And guess where I read it? The National Enquirer. So this has been an open secret for decades, so why are people all up in arms about it now. Not referring to the women involved of course. They did their part way back then, but no on listened. But why is everyone listening now?

    1. Probably a mixture of things, Basil. He's no longer in the spotlight like he was when the Cosby show dominated the ratings on a weekly basis, Sandusky taught a lot of people that turning a blind eye doesn't make things any less true, social media and 24/7 access to news means that things can't be polished over by nes outlets before we find out what's going on in the world etc. etc.
Either that or people got bored playing Candy Crush and don't find TMPGIS funny, at all. *shrug*

    2. I wondered the same thing. Good answer bacon

    3. The National Enquirer were also the first to report on MJ's drug problems but were poohed poohed for years. Vindicated when they found MJ had basically his own pharmacy on premises.

    4. I think the fact that another black male comedian called Cosby out and told people to google it gave the rumors credibility. Not many cared while it was just a woman or two making the charges. Then one of the accusers capitalized on that and wrote an essay in the Washington Post. Social media carried the ball the rest of the way. But sad that the public listens to a single male voice more than several women.

    5. Cygne, kind of the same thing with the ex-NBC employee who is telling his story now. Why are these women being taken a little bit more seriously when a man steps in? It's a shame our society is like that. I can't believe I ever thought that dirt bag was a good guy.

  4. I don't know what went on behind the scenes of the Cosby show, but if my memory is correct, Lisa's role in that Mickey Rourke movie was deemed 'unfamily like' and there was a big uproar about it and her image being tarnished. Have any of his other co-stars come out with statements or spoken up to defend him?

  5. I read some quote from an unnamed cast mate that said she was always biting the hand that feeds her. Maybe she had good reason to act up or distance herself from Cosby. Either way there's way too much smoke in this for there not to be a fire. Also why is Ravin Simone out there making sure ppl know he didn't lay a hand on her? No one said he was a child molester.

  10. I have such mixed feelings that sway towards disgust and disappointment. We grew up listening to Cosby albums and Fat Albert. We have shared these with our young son and he loved him. Cosby was in tow two years ago and my son wrote him a letter asking if he could meet him. He agreed to it and treated my son very special - meeting with him in his dressing room instead of the Meet and Greet room. We were very grateful for that kindness and always will be. However, I was quite disappointed in the comedy act as I found it to be misogynistic and cranky. He wasn't the kindest to me when we met him but I thought at the time he was joking. Unfortunately, there are too many women and there is too much history for me to ignore and not believe. My son heard about it at school and we had to tell him the man he admired was not worthy of the admiration. I just feel sad for the women taken advantage of because he had all the power. It is so ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  11. *"taken advantage of" should not be a euphemism for rape. Sorry I phrased it that way.

Also, why haven't any co stars spoken up in his defense? Raven Symone only spoke up because she was dragged into it by rumors.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I find it very interesting that not one of his co-stars has spoken up in his defense. As you said, Raven S only denied that the statements attributed to her weren't hers, but she didn't go the extra step and say anything in his defense

      Delete
    2. Nobody is going to defend him because it would attach their name to his, whether he be innocent or not (I'm not saying he's innocent, I'm only saying I wasn't there and I will not take sides because I wasn't there, nor will I be on any jury).
People still have to work and if they sign on to defend him, they will be automatically black listed and called a supporter of rape.

This is what needed to start happening - third party corroboration of a pattern of behaviour at least if not specific allegations and the reality is Bill Cosby is just one of many many men in Hollywood who operate like this and have for decades. Before that it was kings, emperors and the aristocracy but you definitely had no recourse in those days. The King's will is God's will. Puke.

  20. I was born in 81 so I grew up watching Bill Cosby. And I never liked him. Even though he was on these family shows and was this lovable role model, there was something about him that rubbed me the wrong way and reminded me of my abusive father. This anger or darkness lurking under the surface, this need for control. I don't know how to explain it because apparently no one else ever saw it. I didn't know the word misogyny at the time, but that's the vibe he gave me, as a child, through the television screen. So these allegations really don't surprise me. I'm just happy these women are finally being listened to.

    1. I think he tended to show more of his real self on talk shows. He was a bit arrogant as I recall. We all know by now that those happy family shows on tv are not like that behind the scenes except maybe Happy Days. That is why it is called acting and that is why my favourite shows parody what goes on behind the scenes like 30 Rock is just SNL behind the scenes or Episodes, which I think it is hysterical. Or Californication, Hank working on that movie script. Hollywood is just too funny weird not to parody.

  21. I almost forgot that the man who really seemed to get the ball rolling on Mr. Cosby was comedian Hannibal Burress. October 20, 2014.

I was over at the NY Post and people were criticizing SNL's Michael Che for saying Bill Cosby pull YOUR damn pants up . I didn't know Hannibal also worked at SNL before as a writer.

My first thought at the time was how can HB say this and then I thought he was being shocking to get attention. But then I thought that Bill Cosby would be suing the arse off this guy but I have not heard one thing about him filing a slander suit or did Cosby even say anything in response??? Or was Hannibal finding out the truth about an idol that set off his rant? Does he know some of the "victims"?

  22. I had read that Tiger had a damage control team - they made sure his image stayed pristine but he made it very difficult for them and he is lucky he got away with it as long as he did. It is the proverbial house of cards falling once that first card is yanked out. Tiger's sin was at least forgivable in time and he shouldn't even bother with the fake girlfriends. Just be a horn dog, just a discreet horn dog and no one will care.

    1. There have been several credible women coming forward. Yesterday there was a wealthy woman who had absolutely nothing to gain and alot to lose by speaking up. I believe there are now around 17 women all saying the same thing, and they do not even know one another. I'm not sure why anyone would believe Cosby is innocent at this point, since even he is not claiming to be. He has the finances to sue any and all of these women for slander and he hasn't. He agreed with the Constand woman to not challenge her charges.

      Delete
    2. Yes, Janice is a hot mess, but she also said that this incident with Bill was one of the contributing factors to her using drugs and alcohol to medicate. It's not an unusual story when people get sober to say that being raped and trying to mask all the feelings it caused led to their substance abuse, so maybe that's teh case with Janice? I remember hearing these stories 25 years ago, and they are all so similar that I believe the, even Janice.

The other night, Bill Cosby performed in Melbourne, Florida. My friend Julie who lives in the area, was outraged, so she made a sign and stood outside the theatre. She was the only one.

  30. The thing that is so messed up about this is that Cosby could get laid any time he wanted. I guess a power thing with the drugging. But for the drugging he would be like a lot of power players in hollywood- using power, influence, and sometimes intimidation/coercion to get young actresses into bed.

    1. Most of the women are white, and the 2 black ones who spoke up did not get drugged. I began to wonder if there was some racial motive behind this on Cosby's part. Or maybe he didn't think the white women would succumb to a black man's charm and power.

      Delete
    2. No need to bring race into this. He could get laid by white or black women in a heartbeat- apparently just not the ones he wanted at that time.

  32. The fixer said there was a woman who had a modeling agency who would bring several young models, as young as 16, to his show and afterwards his dressing room. He would pick one and send the rest home. So basically she was his procurer. And this guy was the lookout guy outside the door who then paid the women the hush money.

  33. Have not heard a single credible account of Bill Cosby raping anyone. All these supposed victims and not one filed a police report? These old stories are taking on a life of their own due to social media. News is now entertainment pandering to the lowest common denominator (ex, all things Kardashian). The accusers I've seen have all been kooks hungry for fame or looking for a payday. Janice Dickinson will say anything for attention. Pictures of Cosby in his robe, in his hotel room don't help her case. He was famous and powerful, she was unknown and attractive. What do you suppose the arrangement was? This SCANDAL has as much corroboration as Rod Stewart's stomach full of semen story. Will we be talking about that next month?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What would be credible in your eyes? There was a woman who filed a police report, then a civil suit and Cosby settled it out of court. He could have gone to court to clear his name and he chose not to. Part of the agreement was that he could not call her a liar regarding her charges. Look it up!

    2. Married man wearing a bathrobe in a supermodels (remember this was 1982) apt? He's been doing this since the mid 60's with 2-3 women per year. That's probably 100 women. 100 women are going to just decide to accuse Bill Cosby of drugging and raping them for kicks? For fame? Yes..these women are going to be the next Jennifer Lawrence. Yup. That's their plan. How are they looking for a payday by going public? Wouldn't they have contacted Bill privately? Billl is represented by Marty Singer - Tom Cruise and Charlie Sheen's lawyer. The two biggest sue happy celebs out there. Funny how Marty isn't suing anyone on Bill's behalf.

    3. JBE, good points. The fixer who came forward today said he was supporting 8 women at a time. I think he had 2 or 3 one nighters a week in addition to a rotation amongst a stable of women. Hundreds if not thousands of women.

    4. Hairy- you have got to be joking. So far there are 16 accounts of women who were drugged and raped. What are u reading? These rapes took place in 60's, 70's. He was the big star, had money and power. They knew no one wld believe them, so just tried to forget. Thats what women had to do in those days. These kooks as u call them, are mothers and grandmothers now, not kooks. They have zero money aspirations as statue of limitations ran out long ago. So the women cannot prosecute, cannot get any money. An objective look at situation should clear things up.

    5. If you check out the civil suit that Andrea Constand filed against him (and with whom he settled the case with) you'll note that 13 other Jane Does came forward to back up her allegations.

The district attorney on the case said he believed in his gut that Constand was telling the truth, but unfortunately there were not enough details. Other attorneys on the case said there were definite patterns that Cosby exhibited when hearing the stories of the 13 Jane Does. Namely, drugging his victims.

There are way too many women coming forward for me, personally, not to believe this isn't true.

  35. I think that covering it up was racially motivated. The white media didn't want to bring it up and be called racist so they held up the mirage that Cosby was "The Magic Negro" and the black side didn't want to bring it up because they felt that Cosby was at leat one person the white media and community respected.

    1. Alot of people, both black and white, were invested in him emotionally and needed for Cosby to remain a hero of our society. 2. "Magic negro?" The guy made commercials for Pudding pops and voiced a cartoon character named "mushmouth." There's nothing magic about that.

  37. I just recently watched a VERY interesting documentary on the Roman Polansky rape scandal back in the mid 1970's. You compare the amount of outrage, media and legal storm that went with that ONE instance. Not to mention neither the girl OR her parents wanted to prosecute Roman. To this day if he returns to the USA he can be arrested. Now I'm not standing up for Polanski, but how is it possible that Cosby has (allegedly) drugged and raped dozens of women and he's walking around scott free? He doesn't HAVE to talk about it because he doesn't WANT to talk about it. Why hasn't this asshole at least been taken in for questioning? Somebody 'splain that to me please.

    1. minpin.. difference is polanski was tried and convicted and he fled before sentencing
cosby's accusers were forced to stand down/ paid off/ or not enough evidence to bring charges
polanski is still a wanted felon who is dodging his sentence
cosby never had charger brought ergo a free man like it or not.
statute of limitations TO prosecute or bring charges is long gone

      Delete
    2. Polanski served the time he was originally sentenced to (at the time). The original judge on the case was dragging the prosecution AND the defense in chambers and telling them what he had decided was going to happen. Initially both lawyers went along with it and Polanski served some time. The judge had told him and his lawyer that once he got out, that would be it. Of course the judge caught hell from the public over that and he reneged on his original deal he had made with the defense and Polanski. BTW Roman wasn't convicted of rape, it was unlawful sex with a minor. When the original judge tried to rig the sentencing part, both the defense AND prosecuting attorneys said they weren't going to be a part of it, they turned the judge in and got him thrown off the case. The original judge screwed SO much stuff up on that case and had lied to the defense out the ass so much I can see why Roman blew town. There was a lot more to it than that but my point is, why hasn't Cosby even been taken in for questioning? It's like the damn cops are afraid to have to do their job and maybe arrest Cosby. I don't care how fucking famous he is, he's a damn rapist. Rant over.

      Delete
    3. Okay I reread your post and point taken on the statute of limitations. My question is can't they get him on drugging the women or SOMETHING related to it? I still cannot believe there's a statute of limitations on rape or molestation. It's a mans world. Maybe they can dig up a tax dodge in all of that mess. God knows they'll hound you to your grave over taxes.

    4. I just can't believe people will support Woody Allen and Roman Polanski and even speak highly of these people. Maybe in 20 years people will be speaking highly of Cosby again (I hope not if all this is true).

Where's all the outrage for all the other rapists in the entertainment industry? Are we seriously fooling ourselves thinking this doesn't happen all the time? One doesn't have to be held down to be raped, but actors, directors and producers are constantly doing this with only a threat against a career of any young woman in the entertainment field.

The entertainment business is so saturated with rape and child molestation it's ridiculous.

And I only speak because I have several family members that work behind the scenes and they see it all.

  40. BG has a blind today that sounds like it is about Cosby - and says one of his costars is debating whether to lend her voice to the chorus of women. Could be Bonet.

    1. Suge-u right, it is an interesting find. Wld explain alot. And just for the record, i always believed anita hill. Who could makeup pubic hair on a can of soda?! Clarence is a piece of shit, his wifes a drunk, but they are both pillars of their church. He's also a lousy judge, just writes his opinion, doesnt contribute to any discussions. I've no use for any sexual predators. And if that did happen to Lisa, and she can find it in herself to come forward, good for her. L

  42. ...then why did Lisa Bonet return to the show, as someone on CDaN previously noted, after her baby was born if this is true???
i'm just repeating another's query which I agree is curious if true.

  44. Cosby was a tremendous stand-up comedian. Not as good as Richard Pryor (who is though) but he held his own.

I never liked his show. Huxtable seemed like such a phoney and a boor. It never made me laugh once or interest me at all.

Anyone else remember the episode where Huxtable obsessed over the virginity of his oldest daughter? He finally bullied her fiance into revealing whether they had sex or not? Really? That was America's No. 1 dad???? He was an asshole.

  45. @plot - Yes I do remember that episode and it was creepy as hell. I recall feeling grossed out that he thought it was his business to discuss his daughter's sex life with his new son-in-law he had just met. He made such a BIG deal about making sure she was a VIRGIN on her wedding night. That was Fucked Up to be sure.

  46. Read yesterday when cosby appeared on letterman, he demanded 5 young staffers to sit silently to WATCH him eat curry food. They all hated it , it was so uncomfortable, but the powers that be were all thats what he wants, thats what we do. Once again, women getting completey subjugated in their workplace to watch this asshole eat curry. Not blaming anyone, but wish someone gad spoken up as in no fucking way!!! If letterman knew and ket this go doen, more reason for me to dislike him. So sick.

    1. He's a misogynistic power tripper. Why would you WANT people to sit and watch you eat? Cause it's a power trip. I wish someone would have gotten their camera phone out and video taped THAT! Can you imagine that going viral? He be a laughingstock.

  47. Late to the party, but in the mid-80s I knew women who worked on account at a pr firm that had him as a spokesperson. They'd come back from media tours saying what a pig he was -- women in and out of his hotel room, saying inappropriate things to them etc. He never made a pass at them, or not that they talked about at the time. Just what a vile disgusting man he was -- total opposite of his image.
