  2. I've heard a lot of speculation on other sites that it's an inside job, à la Courtney Love. Either that or a publicity stunt.

If it's a real robbery, it's kind of odd. Where would you fence a dress like this? Unless there's some Middle Eastern Princess who must have the dress at any price and will never wear it outside her castle, it's a one-of-a-kind garment and it would be obvious that it was stolen.

And the pearls must be relatively low-quality cultured pearls in order to be uniform size, which means they also have very little value independent from the dress.

    1. Pretty much on point Nutty since the gown was returned because the pearls were fake. Who would use real pearls on a gown like that?

    1. I first saw blue and brown, but after looking hard enough I could see the white and gold. Can't see black at all.

  5. Well an hour window isn't a lot so how would they know she's out of the room. I'm curious as to how Courtney could be involved Nutty.

    1. @Sherry, I didn't mean Courtney was personally involved! A few years back, Courtney claimed that a lot of her jewellery was stolen, including some priceless pieces from Kurt Cobain. After an investigation by the insurance company, it was strongly suggested that Courtney had 'misplaced' the items herself in a plot to get an insurance payout.

I don't mean to suggest that Lupita herself was involved this time, but some of her staff or the hotel staff might be.

    3. lol - I prefer to go with the original misunderstanding that Courtney Love did indeed turn cat burglar and mysteriously steal the dress. That is some good tea!

  8. Gee I don't think I would use such high end pearls on a dress.

  9. I dunno that they were high-end pearls. Most of the quotes about the pearls' value seem to be coming from the pearl industry, which has a vested interest in making them look very, very expensive. A friend bought me a very pretty pearl necklace in Thailand a couple of years ago for about $20. I'm sure they weren't high-end pearls, but they are definitely pretty enough to please non-experts like me, and I'm sure they are nice enough to look good on a dress.
