I had my birthday twice in 1988 - once in Sydney, Australia, t was a blast, out at a club with Aussie friends, got on a plane next day to Honolulu Hawaii for a couple day stopover where at midnight it was my birthday again. Crossed the international date line. Met some great Swedish people, we checked out the beaches and went out to at night to celebrate my birthday again!
Tina, were you on the harbour for the bicentennial? I missed a ferry & was in the middle of it when the tall ships came through the heads! Best lateness ever!
skippy I missed the tall ships darn I love schooners and sail boats, that would have been a sight but I did get to Expo 88 in Brisbane, I was in Oz for a few months backpacking. On my bucket list is to spend New Year's Eve in Sydney on a yacht in the harbour once, that looks like the ultimate NYE and I'd also love to see New Zealand and Western Australia, which I didn't get to last time, but so many places to see and so little time and money now.
My bestie and I were heading to downtown Detroit, Greektown, for my 21st birthday and we hit a dog at 10 1/2 Mile and Woodward. :/ We just went to her place and ate ice cream and cried.
As far as I know, the dog was okay. But damn, who the hell lets their dog roam near a busy street! ;(
Om sooo luvky because almost all of my birthdays have been great- its also vanentines day- but i guess best wld be valentine birthday when mr liddy and i decided to get married.
30th birthday- I went to London and stayed with a person I only knew from an online chatroom. He took me all over England and didn't even murder me! It was the best and craziest thing I've ever done. I always had an overwhelming desire to visit London.
IKR?! My mom was certain of it! I even went back for my next birthday. It's been 15 years since then. We still chat every so often on FB. I am pretty intuitive and could tell he was a nice guy. We spoke for a few years before I asked him if he would take off from work to entertain me for 2 weeks. :-)
My 29th. The theme was Logan's Run. I bought ankhs and red round crystals from the arts and crafts store. Stuck the crystals to our palms with double stick tape then went bar hopping. Started talking to a group of guys asking what they were about and had to explain the whole Logan's Run 30th Birthday Carousel thing. One of their friends was across the room and decided to see who these girls were they were chatting up. I raised my hand to say "hello". He looked and me and said, "What are you, 29?". We've been together ever since - almost 19 years.
The birthday experience that comes to my mind was in high-school, for my birthday, my two bff's took me out to a restaraunt in Denver called The Dove. It was pretty $$$ and one whole wall of the restaraunt was glass with a bird aviary behind it, full of (you guessed it) DOVES.
After dinner we went to this huge movie theater on the NE side of town to see Halloween (the original). Turns out we were the only 3 white people in the whole theater. What was weird was a BUNCH of people had brought their VERY YOUNG children with them to see the movie too.
The theater was like the size of a barn, the movie was sold out and the whole time the movie is playing everybody and I mean EVERYBODY was screaming at the movie screen, telling the teenagers to RUN! or DONT GO IN THAT ROOM! (or whatever).
There were these two little kids (around 5-6 yrs old) in front of us standing on their chairs, pulling their hair and screaming in terror as Jamie Lee Curtis is being chased by Michael Meyers with that damn knife. The whole experience was surreal. I felt so sorry for all those kids. I think some were even trying to crawl under the theater chairs. Fucking insane birthday.
My 16th. It was the year the family was in the midst of a major move and I had to say goodbye to my friends....in all the fuss everyone forgot it was my birthday.
32 - I met Johnny Depp. He was still with Vanessa, and was smoking hot. Yeah that was a good day. I smiled for like a week after.
ReplyDelete@Jessi - For a second I thought you said you SMELLED for a week after meeting him. ;)
Delete16 - My parents took me to Carnegie Hall in NYC to hear Van Cliburn play. We took a limo, had a fancy din. The whole nine.
ReplyDelete12. I was at my birthday dinner and my first ever period started.
ReplyDeleteWorst.Gift.Ever.
Aw, Snarky, I feel for ya. Mine was Xmas Day, 1975 and the whole extended family was there and they ALL knew. Mortified!!
DeleteOh God. That's awful. The mortification of having to ask for something too. I wanted to die.
DeleteMine was at a state school dance concert. Only the day before I had been feeling left out because most of the other girls had gotten theirs already.
Delete40 - I got robbed at gunpoint. :(
ReplyDeleteThat sucks Bally...I was mugged on my 16th birthday.
Delete21-had a week long hangover from it, but it was worth it! Bar crawl in my college town with a big group of crazy friends:)
ReplyDeleteThe best ones were the ones I can't quite remember,as in the level of drunkeness directly equates to the level of fun.*disclaimer* I am european

My 18th was pretty cool. A classy kegger affair. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy 50th was a Breakfast at Tiffany's theme and my coworkers went all out.
What a difference a few years makes.... from keggers to Tiffany's.
My 40th because OP rented a limo and we went to see Cirque Du Soleil and rolled afterwards on a party bus. Plus I got some nice jewry!
ReplyDelete5 I had an ice cream Barbie cake :)
