What a lady she was. I'm so glad I got to experience her in my lifetime.

  2. Sarah Silverman bothers me to no end. She's not funny at all. All of her "jokes" are pretty much the same, if I may, an impression of Ms. Silverman's "comedy":

"Men blah blah blah, Poop fart cunt! Didn't expect a woman to use the word "cunt", huh. That's edgy comedy! Appreciate me! I'm the Lena Dunham of comedy, bitches! So, pussy, vulva, clit, kitty, cunt ass fucking! Thank You! You've been great!"

Joan really did turn gender roles on their head in her comedy which Sarah seems to think she is doing. Joan played the victim in the setups but then ended up getting the upper hand in the punchline, that is using your sex to show that you are as good as a man. Also, what Sarah (and her ilk) don't seem to get is that Joan Rivers was edgy because what she was doing (talking about the troubles with marriage, the woman's place in a home, the male dominated world, etc) was taking place during a time when women were supposed to meet their husband at the door at 5pm with a Martini in one hand and a roast beef dinner waiting on the table. A time when "secretary or nurse" were the two lofty goals women could aim for.

I understand Sarah and other "edgy" female comedians wanting to pay homage to Joan, especially after her death, but I just wish they'd realize that being edgy to be edgy is a schtick, being edgy by turning supposed roles people are expected to follow is what brings change.

  3. Sarah Silverman isn't edgy, she's vulgar. She's said that she always got a "great reaction" when (as a small child) she would curse and say smutty things etc.

It's like if you've ever watched the movie & sequel Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2. In the original Kick Ass, Hit Girl is shocking and funny because of her size/age/language and skills at killing the shit out of the bad guys. Nic Cage was also funny/disturbing as Big Daddy.

Flash forward to Kick Ass 2 and Chloe Moretz has grown up and it really doesn't work anymore having her play teenage Hit Girl the same way. She's grown too old and it was funny/shocking once but not so much for the sequel.

Sarah Silverman is the same IMO. She might "look" younger than her age but she's still beating that same, crude dead horse. Her comedy really hasn't evolved at all.

If nothing else Kathy Griffin, on the other side of "rude" comedy, definitely stays on point with current events so you don't go to her show and feel like you've heard it a million times before.

My 2 cents (drops the mic, walks off).
