Clooney Predicted Sony Hack

Us Weekly has a series of leaked emails from George Clooney to Sony Pictures chair Amy Pascal. All of the e-mails are fairly guarded and carefully worded. Some choice exerpts from the e-mails: "The stakes are higher than citizen kane...if we tell the truth in a compelling way...rupert [Murdoch] wont' (sic) get time/warner...cnn won't be fox...I'm so excited to do this film..."

And Clooney fully expected to get hacked: "And for those of you listening in...I'm the son of a news man...everything will be double sourced...so come on with your lawsuits...fuckers..."

Clooney's emails seem to point the finger at Rupert Murdoch, who has famously behind the huge British phone hacking scandal. George Clooney is on board to direct Hack Attack about Rupet Murdoch and the hacking scandal for Sony Pictures; that news was reported by Variety back in September.

  1. I don't really think he was predicting anything, I think his "to those of you listening in" comment is related to Rupert Murdoch..Duh.

  2. Agreed Gina. The movie in question was about hacking. He was making a joke.

  5. I have a hard time believing North Korea is behind this. Other than them being mad about the movie, they really aren't pr savvy. What would they gain by leaking sonys emails? I mean that doesn't seem like an evil villain trying to take over the worlds master plan.. "Let's destroy Americans idea of movie studios! Then they will realize the error in their ways and let us have nuclear weapons!" "Oh Kim Jung-Un you are an evil genius!" "I know lets ask for 1 meeelliooon dollars next."

  8. Sounds paranoid..and much too self important. Citizen Kane? The power that stops mergers? Oh please..he truly needs to get over himself.

  9. I just wish that someone would tell George that asking Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt what they think went on with Murdoch isn't the same as real double sourcing.

  10. Rupert Murdoch was 'behind the phone hacking scandal'?

Sure, his company News International owns a couple of the major papers involved in it, but saying he is behind it is like saying I'm to blame if my kid passes wind in class.

  11. Rupert knew of course he did. You need his sign off for the money they spent hiring the hackers. The editor was paid off and fell on her sword, it was probably her idea in the first place.

    1. Every chance he knew about it, zero chance he was involved, at that level of business he'd need absolute deniability. The standard press set up is 'do what needs to be done but the risk is all yours'. I have a cousin who cleared £200,000 for one scoop alone back in 2004 so the risk is well worth it.
