Madonna To Build 300 New Schools in Malawi

Madonna, 56, is in Malawi again and promising to construct more schools as well as a "new 50-bed Paediatric Surgery and Intensive Care Unit in the country's commercial capital Blantyre".

Her charity, Raising Malawi, is partnering with the organization BuildOn to build the schools across the country. Madonna brought her children David Banda, Mercy, and Rocco and spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Africa.

"Education is the future," she told school children, "The biggest gift I can give you is education".

  1. I'm sure it will be made out as a publicity stunt or a "white woman in Africa" stunt, but in the end, if even only a few children benefit from it, there are a few children whose lives are better.

Now - unforgivable is Madonna saying education is a gift and then typing "wizdumm" in her Instagram caption. You are a grown up woman, not a 14 year old with pink iPhone.

  3. It may make me an awful person but I doubt it. This doesn't make me dislike Madonna any less.

  4. It's a good thing she is doing. How often do we berate celebs with more money than brains who seem to do nothing with their fame but shop at the trendiest spots in LA? So no hate or sarcasm from me for her giving something to Malawi that they so desperately need.

Hard to find fault in this. Good for her doing this.

  6. Yeah, because her last attempt worked out so well.

    1. That wasn't her fault. Corrupt 'officials' channelled the funds elsewhere and she had to cut her losses. She's not there to fund them.

  7. Didn't she renig on her previous efforts or the foundation was corrupt or something?

  9. I wish her efforts come to fruition. Officals in many many third world country are beyond corrupt, so i believe her about that. Look at mexico, which i dont think of as 3rd world, and their whole corrupt system- law officials right up to president.

  10. The thing people forget is that doing business in other countries is not the same as doing business in developed nations. She got taken last time so hopefully she'll be more aware of the pitfalls going in this time.

I hope she's able to fulfill her wishes and can build schools as well as keep them running. THAT will be the tricky part. Her heart is in the right place (all except for that stupid spelling of wisdom..that was dumb.)

  11. Even Oprah got taken when she tried to do the same thing. The leaders of some countries in that area are corrupt. Madonna gets major karma points in trying to do it again after her first try failed due to corruption and greed. And if she is the woman in the blind using less than legal means to save girls from genital mutilation by using bribery, then she is probably learning how to get these schools done that way.

  12. Madge got taken last time because she hired sycophants to run her charity. Also, she never established her efforts as an official charity, which would include sharing where the proceeds go with the IRS, so her minions ran wild with the millions raised.

I hope this time Madge is serious about building a serious organizational framework. If not, this is just another publicity ploy on her part.

  13. Is all this still going to be run by her red string cult, Kabawalla?
