TLC To Air New Special: "My Husband's Not Gay"

TLC has a new "educational special": My Husband's Not Gay. The special will air in January, and follows the lives of Mormen men in Utah who are married to women, but are attracted to men. The men all deny that they are gay.

  3. I'm so sick of 'reality' shows..it's just gotten ridiculous. It's like the freak show is now the norm.

  6. Btw just from reading the headline I knew this had to be in Utah. We always joke it's hard to tell if someone is gay or just really religious. It's almost the same thing around here. Well almost, because if you aren't really religious then you get kicked out of the state!! Kidding, kidding. Salt Lake got voted the most gay friendly city, so it's not that bad here people.

    1. No offense, Krystie, but what list voted Salt Lake City the most gay friendly?? LA, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, I can see....but Salt Lake? It didn't strike me as place with even one gay bar (granted, I visited years ago). I'm just curious as to who decided this! But it was very pretty :)

    2. The Mormons were a huge contributor to Prop. 8 law in California, working to PREVENT same-sex marriage. In 2008. That was just six years ago. There's no way SLC is the most gay-friendly city. That's just ridiculous.

Maybe you meant the most gay-friendly city in Utah?? Is there another?

    3. OTOH, I just looked at Wiki, and I see that Utah now allows same-sex marriage. So you're officially ahead of Florida.

      /isn't everyone?

    4. Don't worry, Utah was just as shocked as you all are! Believe it or not, it was voted that and I only know because it was a big pearl clutching deal. But SLC is pretty trendy these days, and I feel like it's probably true. The mo's have more say in California politics than our own state politics. I bet we legalize marijuana soon too. But the im not really gay tv shows make more money than all that.

    1. Please!!!!!! Just watched teaser! Why dont they just admit theyre gay and live their life as such? So foolish to supress yourself like that. Another example of how religion fries your brain.

  9. LOL. Remember when ''The Learning Channel'' showed nothing but footage of C-sections and rhinoplasty? It's truly evolved into...something.

  10. If you're trying to convince everyone you're NOT gay, going on TV and telling the world you're attracted to men isn't the best way. Did the wives think this was a good idea? I want the world to know my husbands not attracted to me! What ARE these people thinking???

  11. Who's the really strict guy on TLC with the "perfect" family except his son who's not good enough that he shunned but uses his biracial granddaughter and the black mom as publicity? That guy should be #1!

    1. I think that is on another network.. USA maybe?. I've seen it a few times. The father comes across as gay to me. Even one of his kids said so.

    2. Chrissley Knows Best. Todd Chrissley is the gay father.

  12. It's a real thing, they accept they are born being attracted to the same sex, but choose to live life with a woman. Because family and religion are more important than their sexual impulses. The church has really been pushing this way of life the last few years.

  13. LOL @Brunhilde, I totally do! I watched open heart surgery on TLC - my brother came into the room while I was watching it and flipped his lid. "You gotta warn people! That's gross! I don't want to see that!" LOL

Why is the title "My Husband's Not Gay" but the screenshot says "My Husband's Gay"? I feel for people trapped in boxes that say hellbound if you don't believe what I do.

  14. Do the wives have wieners? Just asking.

  15. Yeah enough of these reality shows where people over share and stab each other for attention.

And I feel so badly for all those who have to hide who they really are because God in his infinite wisdom made them wrong somehow. This totally give Christianity a bad name since it's supposed to be about forgiveness.

  16. Yet another reality show I won't watch. Dumb premise. It sounds anti-gay to me. Are we supposed to look for limp wrists or what?

We've finally reached a point in this country where gay is not reduced to stereo types. It wasn't the actors who came out early, like NPH. But I think they gave the courage to people I am more likely to meet - my former banking boss, my CPA, and my dentist, as examples, to just quietly put pictures of their boyfriends on their desks.

I am convinced that the photos of the first gay marriages in the media changed a lot of hearts. It was probably no coincidence that a lot of the first marriages I saw were of non-flamboyant lesbian women who had been together for decades. Who would deny them their right to share their lives and property without being stigmatized?

And RIP Sally Ride, a lesbian, an astronaut, a brainiac, a true American hero, whose partner of 27 years was denied survivor benefits because they were not and could not be married. How I wish she had lived to see this shift in the law and in public perception.

  19. Remember when this channel was supposed to be for intelligent people? They used to brag about that. And now it's…this.

    Sad.

  21. I have news for these people.

If your husband is attracted to men, and you have to go on a reality show to prove to the world that "My Husband is not Gay"...Your husband is gay.

The Reality TV realm jumped the shark a long time ago in my house. I haven't been able to watch it since I found out that Pawn Stars was scripted. Oh, the humanity!!
