Deep Thoughts

What is the most unusual thing you have in your fridge right now?

  1. All pretty standard stuff. But I guess Aloe Juice could be considered unusual :)

    1. Dick Clark swore that aloe juice is what kept him looking so young all those years.

  2. I have a burned out candle in the freezer so I can pop out the remaining wax much easier. I'll use it in a wax warmer.

  3. Gourmet Key Lime jelly. Someone left it on the lobby table (tenants leave items there they don't want anymore). I love all things key lime. Merry Christmas to me. Also have Garlic Chili sauce. Nothing unusual about it, but I want to spread the word. Effing amazing stuff. So flavourful! I use it in almost everything now. I've got to stop before I get sick of it. http://www.kficanada.ca/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=54

  4. A can of thanksgiving pumpkin that grew really yummy marshmallows. Now I'm going to add it to a sweet potato casserole.

  5. I have two heart-shaped clay molds with paw prints in them that I haven't been able to bake quite yet. It hurts to look at them, honestly. They're still floppy and protected by a bag of corn.

    1. Tickle I can't stop laughing bc I still have half of the beautiful unpicked stalk of Brussels sprouts I had to buy for thanksgiving. I like them though! Have you tried shaving them as thin as you can and sautéeing with lemon? The sautee and thinness should remove the strong taste.

    2. Tickle- I actually like brussel sprouts and your colorful description of them just slays me!! That is forever how I will refer to them from now on!!!!!

    3. @Kat I'm English, therefore by law i will boil all vegetables until they beg for mercy.

    4. @Tickle, you made me laugh. That is exactly how my mom prepared vegetables. Also, roast beef wasn't "done" until it was almost charcoal. To this day, I shudder at the thought of rare roast beef.

    5. Tickle that's hilarious. But I will suggest you roast them with some shallots and bacon. You might actually find them tasty.

    6. Tickle- loo! My mom was irish and she too boiled veggies until they were mush. But she made a hellofa roast beef tho.

  8. Pomegranate seeds sprinkled with salt. Very very yummy. Supposed to be good for your heart and blood pressure too but I'm thinking that whole "add salt" thing may work against that theory :)

OT: Saw the Battle of 5 armies the other night. AWE to the SOME. If you're a Hobbit fan and are going to the theaters to see it, I highly recommend seeing it in 3D.

  9. Various chickenal body parts for my kitties. When they eat it looks like a murder scene.

    1. Kat I haven't told you yet how much I admire your devotion to these kittles you foster and love. Bless you darling.

    2. Thank you Sherry but because I made a bad mistake, the kitty won't come out from under the bed when I'm in there. It's not being fostered well at all and I'm worried about getting it out and into a carrier so I can give it to a home. It's a bit of a disaster :(

  10. Some funky cheese a dinner party guest brought (what happened to wine?!), a carton of OJ with a tablespoon left in it (because I live with males), and a jar of TJ's sauerkraut with pickled Persian cucumbers.

Oh and a mysterious box I'm afraid to open. It has "SEVEN" written on the top and the last time I saw that, it was not good.

  11. Butter made with weed. It's a couple years old, I should throw it away. But it's interesting all the same.

  14. Um either Branston Pickle (slightly unusual for SoCal) or a piece of my wedding cake from 1997.

  15. Nothing too unusual, just a red velvet cupcake without its top because my 4 yr old granddaughter licks off the icing and then she's done, lol. And asks for another one! Lol ( which she did not get. Ate bowl of raspberries instead.)

    2. Oh good, I'm not a nut. Or not the only one. I have a small fridge/freezer. The top shelf of the fridge has a pair of Lazy Susans, so I can spin 'em around depending on whether I need sour cream or foundation. I keep all my liquid makeup in the fridge.

  19. In the freezer I've got some homemade gingerbread waffles. I bought myself one of those 1950's, old school heavy duty stainless waffle irons with the set of removable waffle and flat griddle plates on eBay. The flat plates are for pancakes, eggs or grilled sandwiches. I love those old appliances from the 50's they still work great.

  20. The only thing unusual about my fridge today is it's clean. Yesterday I cleaned it out, there was still homemade cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving in there and some very nasty veggies. Cucumber I think :/

  21. I wish we could post pictures...I made a beautiful cake for Christmas that looks like a giant present with a big silver bow...so that's taking up some space in my fridge

  22. I have nothing strange or unusual in my fridge. The only thing strange is when I eat leftovers, I usually eat them cold. And, usually right from the container. No muss, no fuss! :)

@califblondy, that made me tear up. So sweet.

  24. This is in my fridge and I just wanted to add a tip. I always heard that probiotics (which must always be refrigerated or else the organisms are dead and worthless) are especially important when on antibiotics. I just thought it was so you keep your stomach ph correct and absorb nutrients. Well since being on antivirals (they must be similar?) I've been very nauseous because I no longer remember to take the probiotic. Now I am easily remembering because it kills the nausea. I bet it would work for other nauseas too.

  25. Bird food - suet bricks I like to keep em fresh and easier to put into the special feeders if they are cold.

    1. For outdoor birds, only in the winter. got the feeders in front of my dining room window so I can watch and take photos sometimes - But this particular food attracts woodpeckers and they are so beautiful to watch.

    2. Tina I keep my suet in the freezer during the summer months up at Blanc Debris. It stays in the outside cabinet during winter months when it's cool.

    3. Oh I forgot to add that not only do the Jays and other birds love it but it lures in the flying squirrels at night. They're nocturnal and it's so cool to see them glide in and land on the tree or just nibbling when it's dark out.

  26. My doctor told me a long time ago if you are on antibiotics even for a short run have yogurt every day you are taking them or you are more susceptible to yeast infections.

  27. Scissors!!! Nice to see you. I have heard tongue is very tasty.

Aside from the green butter I also have my home made smoked tomatoes and white anchovies.

  28. Fresh's Strawberry Flowers perfume. I use it in the summer to cool off. It isn't summer now, but it's still there.

  29. A small can of Sunsweet prune juice. I will never drink it, yet I can't seem to muster the strength to throw it away. It's been 2 years now.

  30. My senile great aunt used to put the phone, and her bible, in the fridge

  31. I just found half a coconut in the garage fridge. What's scary is the last time we had fresh coconut was for a cocktail I was making when we went to the lake for the fourth of July. In 2012.

  32. There's nothing crazy in my fridge because my philosophy is, "If we're not eating it or using it, it's put out to pasture STAT. My fridge is currently packed with Christmas goodies. I've been cooking like a maniac all week. Tomorrow is the Seven Fishes at my sister's. Ironically, I bring like half of the meal.

We had truffle butter last month. My son loved that on toast. It's kind of weird. Truffle honey is pretty yum yum, too. But all that shit is hella pricey. I can't get over the price of eggs right now. I'm officially 1,000 years old for saying that. Ha.

    1. My sister is lucky. They have a neighbor with hens and an over abundance of eggs. The neighbor asked if she would take some off her hands. FREE FRESH EGGS. That would rock my world. (She said yes, of course).

  34. Nothing unusual in my refrigerator. I have ice packs for my hip in the freezer though. I don't know how unusual that is lol.

Also in freezer is hickory smoked bacon we picked up last month from this wonderful place called Singletons in Vermont. Wow...now I want a BLT lmao

  35. Nothing right now because I am traveling. In my hotel fridge I have cheese ends from the Tillamook factory. Between that and the beef jerky from the nearby tillamook Kelly factory, I am going to feast when I get home.
