As in, to get me in a better mood? Talladega Nights. Pretty much anything with Will Ferrell. Clueless gets me in a good mood too. So does Speed. Because Keanu. ♡
Under the Tuscan Sun and While You Were Sleeping. Years ago, when I was in a funk, I put on the (original) Star Wars trilogy - a guaranteed way to feel better.
the toy w/ richard pryor and brewsters millions and og willy wonka.. i refuse to watch jdepp version.. doesn't count grease 2 is my jam!!! i have the soundtrack on my itunes goonies
'Some Like it Hot' with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Curtis was such a beauty. A terrible husband and father and a hopelessly insecure human being, but a beauty.
I also enjoy 'The Sweet Smell of Success' with Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster.
While You Were Sleeping is such a great movie! My other favorite Bill!
Raising Arizona or pretty much any Cohen movie. I also like the plane movie with Dreyfuss and Holly and my favorite John Goodwin - Always - I love that movie. For silly fun, I like the movie Twister (my other Bill), esp with Philip Seymour Hoffman doing a Jack Black and the Dread Pirate Roberts being a douchetastic weather guy. And Aunt Meg!
American Dreamer is a good one too. I've watched that a million times. All of Me with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlinson is another great comedy from the late 70's.
Just a spoonful of sugar..... Mary Poppins is great fun still.
A friend says Joan Crawford movies are great for when you're sick. There's what she calls that Crawford Moment. Rocked by adversity, she throws her shoulder pads back, lifts her chin, and gives Adversity a double-barreled unload of EFF YOU.
I could see how that would work.
Love the druggie aspects of Poppins.... jumping into the chalk drawings, stoner tea while loving to laugh.
Queen and blue- oh yeah. Who can forget that scene in mommy dearest, after pepsi president husband alfred steele dies, and they call a board meeting to lind of ease her out. Everyone all dressed up, she's the only woman there, and its a big cushy room, very disyingushed. They go on and on about how she probably wants to back out of business, should just sign everything over to them. She fixed them a look and finally says," Dont fuck with me boys, this is not my first rodeo!" Scared and shocked 'em she did. Great scene. ( i know it was dunaway, but based on truth)
After my divorce, I went out and stocked up on comedies. I got a large number of different SNL Best of DVDs. I also have a bunch of Ben Stiller movies. He might be an angry man in real life but I love most of his movies. I also have his TV comedy series on dvd.
Kelli I just watched "Bringing Up Baby" and KH drove me absolutely crazy. I was ready to throttle her. She was too nuts to fall in love with IMO. I know it's a classic but goddamn it was too much.

DeleteAn Affair To Remember if I want a good cry.
ReplyDeleteAll About Eve if I don't.
I love comedies in general, so it's hard to pick just one. Anything that makes me laugh hard enough to forget.

ReplyDeleteGotta be funny, to force me to laugh..Marx bros, early woody Allen, or screwball comedy like bringing up baby.
ReplyDeleteKelli I just watched "Bringing Up Baby" and KH drove me absolutely crazy. I was ready to throttle her. She was too nuts to fall in love with IMO. I know it's a classic but goddamn it was too much.
