Kraft Ruins Cadbury Creme Eggs

Well, Easter is ruined. The Huffington Post reports that Cadbury's Creme Eggs will no longer be made of dairy milk chocolate in the UK. The lovely creamy texture of Cadbury's famed signature Dairy Milk chocolate will be replaced with a "standard cocoa mix chocolate." They also changed the packaging to contain 5 eggs instead of 6. But wait. Why do all of these news reports specifically state "United Kingdom?" Oh, that's right. Because in the US they've already been serving us this horrible not real chocolate crap for years, manufactured by Hershey. There goes running to the British store to get superior candy!

  1. Oh jeez, everything is being re-formulated these days.

  2. I don't like them. The yellow junk in the middle is too nasty for words. I'll stick with my Jelly Belly jelly beans.

  3. Thanks, Kraft! Of course an offshoot of Philip Morris/Altria would destroy something so tasty. (Though tbh, I prefer mini eggs. Ahem, preferred)
After the salmonella scare, Cadbury was for all rights and purposes, done.

  5. Is it true that Kinder Eggs are banned in the US because of the choking hazard of the toy in the middle,or is that a myth?

    1. Actually maybe I'm wrong, they aren't in Canada, but US I dunno?

    3. Not a myth at all! They are totally banned and taken away at customs.

    4. With what do you bribe/reward/withhold as punishment then?Kinder Eggs are a fundamental part of child-rearing here in Europe ;)

    5. It's true that kinder eggs are banned in the US. FDA regulations don't allow a toy inside of food. Check out freetgeegg.wordpress. Com for more info and to sign a petition. I used to order them from a site in Canada to enjoy them here; now I live close enough to Canada to bring them back myself.

  8. As an American, I never realized how deprived we are of good things until my husband worked in Canada for 2 years. I can never look at a kit kat the same way. Why the hell do we eat wax?!

    2. @Krystie, I find it mind boggling that Mountain Dew is banned in hundreds of countries for containing BVO, yet it is still sold here in the good old USA.

    3. I load up on chocolate whenever I leave the U.S. We settle for crap here.

    4. I buy my Kit Kats in Japan. So many flavors and the choco ones are so much incredibly better than the versions sold stateside.

  9. I think I ate one, but obviously wasn't impressed because I've never had another.

  11. I've had Cadbury eggs twice in my life - once was regular, the other frozen. I disliked them both times.

What cheeses me off is that the HP Sauce sold here is made in the states and tastes like A-1 mixed with ketchup. I've had real HP and no way is that the same thing. And yes, Lotta, spot on!

  12. Nothing beats British chocolate. Just finished most of a giant Cadbury bar I bought on sale after Christmas. Giant, like 5 pounds. Which are now on my ass. But boy was it good.

  13. As long as they don't fuck with my mini Cadbury eggs in a delicious crunchy yet delicate shell, I don't care. American companies are so evil. All their cost-cutting bullshit. Grrr.

And yes, Kinder eggs are so banned here. My family got our hands on a few from the black market (just kidding), and the kids went wild. The chocolate looks vile, but the chitlins love to play with the little gizmos inside. My son would watch Kinderegg videos on YouTube all day if he could when he was 3. Would totally put him in a trance.

  16. You can get something similar to the Kinder Eggs in the States called a Yowie. Not egg shaped, but does have a prize.

  17. I am ALL about the Girardelli 60% cacao bittersweet chips. I can't even stand to eat stuff like M&Ms anymore they're nasty and TOO sweet (except the peanut butter or pretzel kind). You gotta buy European chocolate if you want the good stuff and the higher the cacao % the better.
