Valentine's Day. (It's my one girly girl thing. I know!)
Cooking comfort food: Soups, roasts, risotto.
I don't have to bathe my 4-year-old son every day. In the summer, this is a completely different story.
Purging. I started in November. I am purging 10 useless items 5 days a week until further notice. I completely got sidetracked in December with all the fucking Christmas duties that took up every waking moment of my life when I was not working, mothering, cleaning, cooking, laundering or doing all the other multi-tasking shit that all womenfolk do. This morning I cleaned out my produce bins in the fridge and my son's toiletry items. Such a great feeling clearing out clutter. I live for it.
Last year's snowfall was a bit ridic, but I do look forward to at least one good one this year. There really is nothing more peaceful than watching the snow fall late at night with a glass of wine, the fire and a good book.
I am checking out some new shows, too. Empire has me hooked.
Snow doesn't seem to fall at convenient times for me. Instead of waiting till I'm snug in my house with a fully stocked kitchen, the skies always open up during my commute. I once sat on the Schuylkill Expressway (PHL) for 3 hours to go 5 miles. Because, snow. I was THIS CLOSE to peeing my pants.
Susan, thx for the reminder. I did the throw out/donate X items per week for a while but got off track. My house is so cluttered and disorganized right now, it's overwhelming. I'm going to start today because of you. Thanks!!
Susan I totally enjoyed Empire too. It wasn't something I actively sought to watch but enjoyed the hell outta it because it came after something else and I never changed the channel.
Sorry for my late reply. I JUST got done work and got the kiddo to bed. Am rocking out a mozzarella, tomato, basil, prosciutto panini and a glass of wine. Yay!
Kno Won Uno - Your tale cracks me up because I am a South Jersey gal and am oh so familiar with the Schuylkill. Can not imagine that shit during inclement weather.
All Lace - My younger sister and one of my best girlfriends thought I was insane in the membrane for my plan, but it is so mind-boggling how much useless crap a gal acquires. My problemo is the baby goods that are taking up prime real estate in my storage space. I know as soon as I ditch it all, a bun will appear in my oven.
I am totally going to watch epi 2 of Empire tonight. Cookie is AMAZING. It's hard for me to watch the male lead (the name escapes me right now and I'm not looking it up) due to all the dirt spilled about him on CDAN. God, I am so pissed about the demise of CDAN. Those fucking asshats. LOL.I wonder if the site is really making money.
I never mind winter, or any season. I love the coziness of winter, the fireplace fires, curling up with a good book, the way the snow makes even the ordinary thing look beautiful, the unspoken okay to eat some good comfort food. Also love Valentines Day!
I'm with you on all that auntliddy...I also love wearing my winter clothes, hoodies, scarves, hats, furry lined snow boots. I live on the top of a mountain/ski resort and I can walk to the slopes. Don't really ski all that much but it always looks like a winter wonderland up here and I love it! oh & FOOTBALL! Hubs and I make chili, start a fire and watch football. I know I'm in the minority but I love winter and actually get "the blues" in the summer. Weird I know.
Winter is the only time of year I want ice cream. I have no idea why that is, but I give Braum's a crapload of money during these months (Eggnog ice cream is to die for).
omg RR...I miss Braum's so much!!! (grew up in TX) Their Peppermint Ice Cream is like crack to me! When I fly home to visit the fam, that is the VERY first thing I do when I get off the plane is go straight to Braum's. My Dad doesn't even ask, he knows to just go there :)
Wahoo, I'm in AR so we have a lot of them. I live about 5 minutes away from the one my cousin runs. I worked there for about 3 days and hated the hours (and had a managers job waiting for me at LJS, too) but he still gives us the employee discount, so we get all our stuff cheap.
Well, there's not a snowball's chance in hell of me ever getting snow where I live. Our temps do get down into the 30's sometimes. The snowbirds wear their tank tops and shorts while the locals are bundled up for the artic.
I love my winter clothes, coats, boots. The mall looks pretty with the decorations. My singing along with Christmas music is a big hit at the local Wal Mart.
I sleep better during the winter. Probably because I don't have to hear the A.C. cycling on/off.
I also love cozy sweaters, cute scarves, and my 20s style hat. Winter fashion is much more fun than summer shorts!
Other things I love: - Snowcapped mountains in the distance - Watching each day get progressively longer (after the solstice) - Warm soup on a cold day - Not feeling guilty staying indoors playing cards on the weekend
that winter wonderland look of fresh fallen snow The way snow looks like it is glistening with stars at night under the moonlight The sound of snow crunching underfoot in the quiet A fireplace Bundling up Being out warmly dressed even when it's below freezing How sharp everything looks when the air is freezing cold
I used to hate it, but now I've made my peace with winter
I like layering my clothes, I like the yummy food, I like the adrenaline of stepping into the cold...to a point. I love in Sydney so our coldest weather during the day is only ever 15 degrees Celsius.
Sometimes it's a white Christmas for the kiddos. They get super excited with the image of Santa and reindeer in the white snow. That's the only thing I like about winter. NOTHING ELSE.
Winter coats. Hot cocoa. Gingerbread cookies. The crunch of snow underneath my shearling lined booties. Knitted scarfs. Early evenings. Waking up to find snow covering everything. Hot Toddies. Hibernating.
Our winters in southern CA are mild, so I get small doses of winter, which makes it easier to tolerate. I like wearing boots, scarfs and gloves. Drinking hot drinks. Seeing snow on the mountains. Sleeping with lots of blankets.
Christmas is good, and I like taking pictures in the snow....but then I want it to melt right away. I love that the days start getting a bit longer every day around New Year's Day, and that winter has to end on March 20th or so to make way for Spring.
I get a chance to wear my leather jacket for a few months. I love cooking big pots of chili and cornbread, and lots of other yummy cold weather food. Lighting the fire place. That's about it. I HATE the dark, so I'm always happy to see the solstice in my rear view mirror.
That's how we always ate it growing up Rowdy. Butter your cornbread, put it in the bowl and then pour your chili over it. In recent years I've started eating my cornbread on the side for something different. Mom & Dad still put it in their chili bowl.
S F A! Ok, I can handle snow, but the cold can eff right off. It's nice this week, But we'll definitely get more arctic weather before spring. By the time March comes, I am friggen done.
When it ends!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, positively NOTHING!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSweaters, snow, soup, fog.
ReplyDeleteNo mosquitos or flies! That is the only thing I can think of.
ReplyDeleteNot worrying about how I look in fitted tops since I'm in sweaters and hoodies until April.
ReplyDeleteChristmas.Even that's a potential nightmare.
ReplyDeleteWool, cashmere, fur and boots.
ReplyDeleteNew episodes of Girls
ReplyDeleteok that is one thing I like
DeleteThe last day of it

Oh I so agree about the bathing of kids!! It's nice to not have stinky, sweaty little boys every day:)

Terrence Howard! That's it.

DeleteNot a gotdamn thing.
ReplyDeleteLOL same here, @Meanie. Winter is the worrrrst.
DeleteWinter is better to sleep in. I actually like to sleep with the window open a smudge to let the fresh cool air in.

DeleteThe coming of Spring.
ReplyDeleteSoups and stews, red wine and a roaring fire
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of baking, but for some reason during a daytime snowstorm, all I want to do is bake delicious goodies and then eat them all.
ReplyDeleteMulled wine, the smell of the air on a cold clear morning, cozy sweaters, and the appreciation it gives me for summer!

Boots. But not ugly boots, sexy leather boots.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Gina. I love the boots with tights look.

ReplyDeleteAmen Derek and Demandah. Cold short days do not appeal to me at all.
ReplyDeleteI would be happy with 12 hour days, warmth and a little bit of humidity as I get old and retire. Some place tropical please.
