Maggie Gyllenhaal recently sat down for an interview with The Wrap, where she talked about ageism in Hollywood. The publication quotes her as follows:
"There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time. I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”
For once, I agree with Hollywood. I don't want to see 37-year-old women having to date old dudes in their 50s! I would much rather watch a movie with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Zac Efron, 27. Now that's called progress!
