Dr. Dre Donates Money to Compton High School

Page Six reports that Dr. Dre has committed $10 million to constructing a performing arts center at his hometown's high school in the Compton Unified School District. The new Compton High School will break ground in 2020, and the performing arts center will contain creative resources and a 1,200 seat theater. Dr. Dre released the following statement: “My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve. The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.” Dr. Dre has donated to Southern California schools in the past; together with business partner Jimmy Iovine, he donated $70 million to USC in 2013 to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation (Dr. Dre's birth name is Andre Young).
