Had the most inspiring conversation with my episode buddy Jordan in between setups while shooting Years of Living Dangerously. We discovered that because of how and where we were raised we have completely different views on some of the topics we tackled, as well as some unexpected similarities. We didn't even shy away from the big ones like agriculture, politics, religion, animal rights, human rights, GMO's and climate change- yet we still managed to find ways to connect, abandoning our beliefs for long enough to not only listen, but learn from the other person. Pretty cool :). The most incredible conversations come from a place of love and openness... with the willingness to see things from someone else's perspective. Otherwise we spend all of our energy picking things/people apart and guess what? Nothing gets done. I also introduced him to his first kambucha, while he told me all about what it was like to be raised in rural Texas fighting for climate change to be recognized by his family and friends. I'm seriously so inspired by this guy. Today was a good reminder for me of how much more we accomplish when we come from a place of love. We had gentle conversations led by curiosity, and in cases where we found we couldn't agree, the respect we had for each other created a space for that to exist without judgement. We cling to our beliefs for so many reasons- sometimes they give us a sense of identity, strength, pride or tradition. Sometimes we get so passionate, we hide behind that word while projecting meanness and hatred. Everyone has something to offer, and differences don't make us right or wrong. Even when we talk about issues that we are sensitive about, it's so important not to use passion as an excuse to make someone feel bad. We only know what we know, until we learn something new. This episode with Jordan, talking carbon pricing, and watching the economy thrive as a direct result in the incredible city of Vancouver, has given me so much hope. More to come about this episode soon...❤️ #putapriceonit @YearsofLiving
