Harvey Weinstein Faces Consequenses

...for possibly the first time in his life. Similar to what happened to Bill Cosby after the decades of sexual assault victims began to be taken seriously by the rest of the world (and he lost the ability to intimidate them into silence any longer), Page Six reports that Harvey Weinstein is starting to face similar consequences.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has suspended Weinstein's membership, effective immediately. They released the following statement:

“In light of recent very serious allegations, BAFTA has informed Harvey Weinstein that his membership has been suspended, effective immediately. Whilst BAFTA has previously been a beneficiary of Mr. Weinstein’s support for its charitable work, it considers the reported alleged behavior completely unacceptable and incompatible with BAFTA’s values. This has led to Mr. Weinstein’s suspension, and it will be followed by a formal process as laid out in BAFTA’s constitution. [We hope to send a ] clear message that such behavior has absolutely no place in our industry. BAFTA will continue to work with the film, games and television industries to improve access to rewarding and fulfilling careers in safe, professional working environments.”

As far as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (aka The Oscars), they released the following statement:

“The Academy finds the conduct described in the allegations against Harvey Weinstein to be repugnant, abhorrent, and antithetical to the high standards of the Academy and the creative community it represents. The Board of Governors will be holding a special meeting on Saturday, October 14, to discuss the allegations against Weinstein and any actions warranted by the Academy.”

It would be a first if the Academy actually did something based on this situation; don't forget Roman Polanski is still in good standing with The Academy.

Last but not least, Page Six reports that Weinstein's alma mater, the University at Buffalo, is moving to revoke his honorary degree, a doctorate of human letters.
