Pulitzer-winning playwright and actor Sam Shepard has passed away at the age of 73 after a private battle with ALS, also knows as Lou Gehrig's disease. Shepard won a Pulitzer for his play Buried Child in 1979, and was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in the movie The Right Stuff. Shepard had a nearly 30 year relationship with Jessica Lange; the pair separated in 2009. Shepard is survived by their children Hannah and Walker, and his son from his first marriage, Jesse.
