James Cromwell Is A Badass

Actor and Activist James Cromwell, 75, was recently booted from an upstate New York awards ceremony for protesting a power plant by heckling the organizers. CPV Energy plans to build a Power Plant near the Hudson River Valley. People quotes him as follows:

"I knew that we wouldn't change any hearts or minds by doing this. I'm not a scientist, I'm merely a concerned citizen. I'm concerned about this community and concerned about maintaining the quality of life for everyone here and not just for those people who make a profit out of ripping things out of the ground. This plant sits on a site which had endangered species, has historical relevance, was a wetland, is in a seismic zone – in other words, you couldn't have found a place to put this plant that was worse in every environmental and societal standard. We needed publicity for people to know that we shouldn't go gently into this goodnight, that we must find out what this means to this community, what it means to the state of New York, and what it means to the world as a whole. This fracked gas is not a transition fuel from coal and oil to whatever renewables. Renewables would be ready now if we would commit the same kind of resources and government support and awareness that we bring to fossil fuels."
