Evan Rachel Wood Talks Game Changers

Evan Rachel Wood recently sat down for an interview with Net-a-Porter's The Edit. Here are some highlights from her interview:

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP?
"The Adventures of Pete & Pete. It was an offbeat look at suburban life through the eyes of kids."

WHICH TV SHOW CHANGED THE GAME FOR ACTRESSES?

"Big Little Lies. It was about things that are kept behind closed doors – stuff I thought we were miles away from talking about. All of a sudden it was on TV with Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon lending their voices to it."

WHAT DREW YOU TO PLAY DOLORES IN WESTWORLD?

"I don’t think I realized how much I related to Dolores until I was in it. Playing her has changed my life as her journey actually helped me [deal] with my own rape and sexual abuse. Not only had I a [personal] appreciation for her, I knew what she was going to do for other people, because she had done it for me. She’s literally beaten and on the ground, but she gets up stronger than before. It got me to face my own experience. I wouldn’t have been able to talk about it, if playing her had not made it real and validated it. The show gave me permission to face my demons."

WHICH AREAS DOES TV STILL NEED TO ADDRESS?
"t’s very rare that you see any out bisexuals [on-screen] unless they are a villain or they’re crazy, as if it’s a trait of someone who is deviant or dirty."
