TMZ reports that Richard Simmons is suing the National Enquirer over their story claiming that he was becoming a woman. Simmons is going for defamation and invasion of privacy, and states that the story is based on a source "who Richard says has been blackmailing, extorting and stalking him for several years." Simmons claimed that the National Enquirer knew that the story was false, but ran it anyway, because they felt "Simmons would never sue because it would make him appear unsympathetic to people who transition ... as if something were wrong with it. Simmons says in the suit they 'miscalculated.'"
The National Enquirer responded to the suit just as Simmons predicted - "Richard Simmons' lawsuit is ironic ... since he claims to support LGBTQ rights, and is now claiming he was defamed by its story he was transitioning to a woman."
Let's hope Richard wins all the money so he can buy an entirely new wardrobe of bedazzled hotpants!
