He’s trying to build up his own group of guys he can make movies with, like the way Ben and Matt [Affleck and Damon] or George and Brad [Clooney and Pitt] or James and Seth [Franco and Rogen] do it. You know, like writing and producing and acting together with the same group on a regular basis.
He’s always worked alone. Maybe he just never saw a need to be part of a group. He’s older now so making new friends doesn’t come naturally to him. That’s why he’s so awkward about it and why it all feels so forced.
