Outtie Announcement: Disqus and Safari

As I'm sure some of you have noticed, Disqus and Safari have not been playing well together recently. This is a systemic issue that there does not seem to be a universal permanent easy fix for. Disqus has a couple of suggestions that might help improve things (click here for help with cookies, and click here for what to do when the comment box isn't loading).

But even when you follow the suggested steps in the provided links, Disqus still acts up on Safari. If you are of a patient sort, reloading the page repeatedly should eventually cause the comment box to load.

If you are not of a patient sort, I highly recommend accessing the site on another browser where Disqus works more consistently. Chrome, Firefox, and Opera all have both Desktop and Mobile versions that can be downloaded to your smartphone or other device on which you access the site.

Hope this helps to solve some frustrations!

XOXO,
Outtie

Blind Gossip Blind Item - Staging Hair and Baby

If you read Blind Gossip regularly, you already know that some celebrities stage those seemingly spontaneous shots that the paparazzi takes of them.

After the recent announcement of the sale of US Magazine to American Media (owner of Radar Online and The National Enquirer), former editor Janice Min gave a couple of examples of staged photos in which her staff participated while she was at the magazine.

"Celebrities do set up their own paparazzi shots.

Half of a very famous couple once didn’t like his (rumored-to-be-enhanced) hair in existing paparazzi pictures and asked our photo team to set up a shot of him with his soon-to-be fiancée walking in LA.

Another well-known actress staged photos of herself with her adopted baby playing in the park."

Goop's Annual Sex Guide

I know you've been waiting in anticipation for this one - it's Goop's annual sex guide! First up, Goop the newsletter, not Gwyneth Paltrow the person, wants to tell you how to do anal. Here are some highlights from a Q&A with Paul Joannides, Psy.D.:

When did heterosexual anal start to become a thing?
Paul Joannides: "In the ’80s, I remember hearing from a friend that he had a videotape of anal porn. This seemed shocking at the time. (This was pre-Netflix: Everything was on videotape, from porn to Disney movies to highlights from the Olympics. Video rental stores were everywhere.) I’m not sure there are too many middle schoolers today who would be shocked or even surprised to watch anal sex on Pornhub or Xhamster.

Since porn became as easy to access as YouTube, porn producers have had to fight for clicks, and so porn has become more extreme. I’d say that by 2005, porn had totally blurred the distinction between a woman’s anus and vagina. This wasn’t because women were begging their lovers for anal, it’s because porn producers were afraid you’d click on someone else’s porn if they weren’t upping the ante in terms of shock value."

Does the popularity of anal in porn reflect reality in both homosexual and heterosexual couples?
PJ "No. There are some couples who enjoy anal sex a lot, maybe 10% to 15% of all straight couples. But if you ask them how often they have anal vs. vaginal intercourse, they’ll say maybe they have anal one time for every five or ten times they have vaginal intercourse. We occasionally, as in once a year, hear from women who say they have anal as often as vaginal, but that’s unusual.

As for gay men, maybe 50% of them have anal sex and 50% don’t. I don’t have exact figures for hetero or homosexual couples, but a lot of gay men would far rather give and receive blowjobs than have anal sex."

Probably more people try anal today than in the past—are there ways to make a first experience a good one?

PJ "Both of you should read all you can about it first. Spend a few weeks helping the receiving partner train her anal sphincters to relax. Make sure you and your partner have great sexual communication, trust, and that you both want to do it, as opposed to one trying to pressure the other, or not wanting to do it but doing it because you are afraid your partner will find someone else who will. Do not do it drunk or stoned, and do not use lube that numbs your anus. If it doesn’t feel good when it’s happening, stop."

Next up, Peggy Orenstein talks Orgasm Equality. Here are some highlights from her Q&A:

You report that many girls get plenty of messages from their families and the culture at large about strong female role models—except in areas that apply to sex and romance. How do we create spaces to talk about and depict affirmative sexual models for women?
Peggy Orenstein "We are getting better at standing up against sexual victimization of women and girls. We need to get better at standing up for our right to joy as well. There’s so much shame around sex in our country, whether it’s discussing it with our kids or among ourselves—even as we are bombarded with sexualized imagery. It’s ridiculous. Honestly, it felt like we were making more progress when I was young—back before the AIDS crisis, before parental consent laws around abortion, before guys were assumed to be watching porn on the regular, back when every girl got a copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves and we learned it was sort of our political duty to go out there and have orgasms (ah, those were the days!). I tried to get some of what it was like to be a young woman then into my book, but somehow I could never make it work. When I was in college, it was a thing for women to gather in a room in the school’s student union and sit in a circle with mirrors, speculums and flashlights and examine our vulvas and look at our cervixes. I never worked those stories into the book, though, because it sounded so weird. It does sound weird, doesn’t it? Yet it did release a lot of shame and open a lot of conversation (and a lot of laughter—we were told a cervix felt kind of like a nose, so forever after my friends and I would periodically look at each other, particularly in a boring class or a silent room, and touch our noses and crack up). But yeah. Weird. It was the early 80s."

Is there as wide an orgasm gap between the genders in older (meaning not teenage) populations? What about a masturbation gap?
PO "According to the National Survey of Sexual Behavior, which was completed in 2009 and is the largest survey ever done on American sexual behavior, the orgasm gap continues across the lifespan. 91% of adult men and 64% of adult women said they climaxed in their last sexual encounter—though 85% of the men believed their female partner did as well, so there’s also a perception gap going on. Maybe women fake, or maybe men can’t tell, or they just want to believe they’re that good.

A masturbation gap remains as well: about two-thirds of men 18-59 and about forty percent of women report masturbating at least once in the last year. But when you pay attention to the popular culture, references to male masturbation are everywhere. I mean, even discounting Seth Rogan or Jonah Hill. I was watching Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and there’s this whole ongoing joke about the guy masturbating and coming on a pillow. He keeps saying “sploosh.” It’s not that I have a problem with that, but I can’t even imagine dialogue that would have a girl talking so casually and naturally about getting herself off. So would more women masturbate if it was less taboo? If we were taught to be less grossed out by our own genitals? I don’t know. I think maybe. I mean, orgasm feels really good and it’s a great stress reliever, so why not?"

Blind Gossip Blind Item - He Wants His Costar Knocked Off

Everybody is talking about the drama between two of the female leads on this network ensemble drama, and how much they hate each other.

While cat fights are interesting, no one is talking about the bigger conflict on this same show… between two of the MALE stars!

"They HATE each other!! Never talk unless they are doing a scene together. Since they are both nice to the staff, though, it’s not noticed as much as the women’s feud.

Fun fact: [The first actor] talked to the producers about getting [the second actor’s character] knocked off the show. Not missing or on a trip but actually dead (so he can’t come back). Don’t know if that will actually happen, but it’s kinda funny that he asked."

Blind Gossip Blind Item - The Villain Plan

This actress has done such a turnaround in the past few weeks that it’s giving us (Snidely) whiplash!

Her most recent ex is also a film star, and she was treating him very badly. Those around her were counseling her that divorce is a war and that she needed to destroy him to get what she wanted. They encouraged her to isolate him and villainize him to the public and to her kids. She did exactly that for many months.

Now, all of a sudden, she is all about kindness and compassion and embracing him back into the family fold. What the heck happened?

The first thing most people think is that she didn’t like the bad publicity that was coming her way. Her plan to make him look like the evil one backfired on her, and she needed to cease her attack on him to save her own reputation.

That was one factor… but not the only factor!

The second factor was a series of communications she had with a different ex-husband. He reminded her of his own strained relationships with his children from various relationships. He told her that what she was doing was wrong.

"He told her that if she really cared about the kids she would do everything she could to make sure that they remained close to their father so they didn’t end up like [one of his estranged kids]."

She took his advice.

Thus, the third factor was her recent invitation for the actor to spend quality time with them in a foreign location. Not with her, but with the kids going back and forth between them. The arrangement worked out so well – and the kids were so happy – that they will be doing something similar again in the future.

The villain plan is out. The Daddy plan is in. Everybody is much happier now. For the sake of the kids, we hope they can maintain this civility.

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Aging

Gwyneth Paltrow recently sat down for an interview with People, where she talked about how her body has changed since turning 40. Here's what she had to say:

“I thought, ‘I eat well, I sleep, I exercise— so why am I always so tired? I don’t get it.’ It’s really incredible. People warn you that it’s going to happen. I was always like, sure I’ll eat a cheeseburger and fries and it just won’t stick. And then after 40 that completely changed.

I think as I’ve gotten older and hopefully wiser I’ve tried to focus on doing little things throughout my week to bolster my strength and energy. I’m trying not to cave into sugar cravings and lots of white carbs all the time, because that’s my kind of go-to; if I get tired in the afternoon I want pretzels, or I want Swiss cheese on a cracker or a baguette. I really love white carbs, which is not great for optimizing your health and your energy.

I’ve had to become more mindful about just in general when I’m having fried food just knowing that, ‘Ok, that may stick in a way that it didn’t used to 20 years ago.' By the way, I’ll never give up fried foods.”

Blind Gossip Blind Item - She Shows Up

This singer has really struggled over the past couple of years.

She has been trying to keep her career going by making new music despite a former colleague’s attempts to intimidate her and shut her down.

So the next time you think of her as a one-hit wonder, or want to make fun of her lack of success or her appearance, you might want to consider what she’s been through.

Terrence Howard Talks Non Violence

Terrence Howard recently sat down for an interview with People, where he talked about changing his ways. Here's what he had to say:

“I’ve made terrible mistakes throughout my life. I was dragging baggage with me that was crippling me mentally and physically. But I finally feel I can put that to rest. I can breathe again.

My dad whooped me every day until I was 14. Then he said, ‘The street will whoop you from now on.’ ...the kids would do horrible things to animals in the neighborhood. I’d try and save them and take the beating instead.”

On how he has changed over the last few years:
“I was raised believing the man is in charge, but I’ve realized marriage should be an equal partnership. Two weeks after meeting Mira, I gathered up things associated with my past and found a nice hill and buried them all there. Mira settled me.”

Mira, on Howard:
“He refuses to kill a fly. And we’re trying to teach our kids not to pick flowers.”

And back to Howard:
“I know in those two weeks or month of a fly’s life, that’s 80 years for them. And we smash them so quickly. I hope if someone saw me trapped, some bigger creature would help me...I still have growing to do. I just hope the mistakes I make now are smarter mistakes.”

On whether or not blondes have more fun:
"People keep asking me that and I finally realized that they're asking it because they're hoping I'm more fun now. That's definitely why. Even my friends and family are like, 'Are you having more fun? Is this going to be a more enjoyable relationship for us? Are you also more fun?' And the answer is no."

Woody Harrelson Frees Up World's Pot Supply

Woody Harrelson recently sat down for an interview with Vulture, where he revealed that he stopped smoking pot a year ago. Here's what he had to say:

What’s a misconception that people have about you?
Woody Harrelson: "[Another long pause.] They think I’m a party animal, which … I am a party animal. I mean, that might be one thing. But I am a party animal. But on the other hand, I haven’t … I’m now extremely moderate and … I actually stopped smoking pot almost a year ago."

Mazel tov. That’s not easy. I’m also in the process of trying to quit.
WH: "Oh, really?"

Yeah, I had a problem with it.
WH: "Why? Just too much?"

It messes with my head and makes me less productive.
WH: "Yeah, that was a little bit of my issue. Just 30 solid years of just partying too fucking hard."

What do you do to keep from relapsing?
WH: "Well, like, last night, someone had — not just good herb but sativa; really good sativa. There’s a joint, and beautifully rolled. I like a beautifully rolled … and I just was like, I mean, I’ve gone this long. It would be weird to just be like, “Okay, let me have a hit off that,” and then suddenly go back to smoking too much, which is … I don’t have a problem at all with smoking. I think it’s great. I think it’s a great drug, in terms of … Even cops say that the side effect is euphoria. Or the … what do you call it?"

The effect?
WH: "Right. The effect of it is euphoria. But when you’re doing it all the time, it just becomes … Well, you know. I feel like it was keeping me from being emotionally available. I really don’t want this interview to turn into a whole thing about that."

Well, congratulations. It’s not easy.

WH: "I still drink. But I try to be moderate with the drinking, too."

Brad Pitt Has a New Hobby

The Daily Mail has a story about how Brad Pitt is spending his time these days, and who knows whether or not it's true, but it's hella funny, so here we go!

The site reports that Pitt spends 15 hours a day making sculptures at the studio of British artist Thomas Houseago. A source states, "'He spends all night working on his art and listening to emotional songs. Everybody knows it's related to what's going on with him personally, but nobody says anything. He's a quiet guy, and very humble. He's learning at a fast pace. Art is a way for him to concentrate on one thing, taking his mind off everything else. He'd rather do that and be constructive than go out partying."

The source says that his songs of choice come from Bon Iver and Waylon Jennings. And now I'm laughing hysterically at the mental picture of Brad Pitt reenacting that pottery scene from Ghost, but alone, and crying, with Waylon Jennings playing in the background.

Jenny Slate Opens Up About Chris Evans Breakup

Jenny Slate recently sat down for an interview with Vulture, where she opened up about her breakup with Chris Evans. Here's what she had to say:

“We used to talk about what kinds of animals we were. Chris said it’s like I’m a chick riding on a St. Bernard’s head. We’re an odd match...I don’t mind talking about him at all. He’s a lovely person. I don’t know. It feels like such a huge thing. Last year was a giant, big year for my heart. I’ve never, ever thought to keep anything private because that’s not really what I’m like, and now I’m learning those things, and they’re weird, kind of demented lessons to learn...I remember him saying to me, ‘You’re going to be one of my closest friends.’ I was just like, ‘Man, I fucking hope this isn’t a lie, because I’m going to be devastated if this guy isn’t my friend.’ ”

On getting together with Evans:
“To be quite honest, I didn’t think I was his type. Eventually, when it was like, Oh, you have these feelings for me?, I was looking around like, Is this a prank? I mean, I understand why I think I’m beautiful, but if you’ve had a certain lifestyle and I’m a very, very different type of person — I don’t want to be an experiment...If you are a woman who really cares about her freedom, her rights, her sense of being an individual, it is confusing to go out with one of the most objectified people in the entire world. I’m considered some sort of alternative option, even though I know I’m a majorly vibrant sexual being...[Women approach him] being like, ‘Oh my God, is that Chris Evans? He’s so hot!’ You’re like, ‘How dare you? That’s my boyfriend. But yes, he’s so hot.’ ”

On insisting they split the bill on their first date:
“[I told him] If you take away my preferences, you take away my freedom. Then I was like, Oh, man, is this dude going to be like, ‘Ugh, this bra-burner.’ Instead, he was like, ‘Tell me more.’ ”

On filming a love scene with him for their movie Gifted:
“It’s one of those scenes where you bust through a door making out. I’ve never done that in my life. I remember apologizing to him after. I’m pretty sure I kneed him in the balls.”

On their differences:
“At first I was like, ‘What a fucking nightmare.’ Chris is a different speed than me — I think he really did just jump out of a plane for an interview. And so when he was like, ‘Game nights,’ I was like, ‘This is annoying. This guy’s like a sports guy. He’s the kid that likes P.E.’ ...I first really liked Chris as a person because he is so unpretentious. He is a straight-up 35-year-old man who wants to play games. That’s it. I was like, ‘I’d better not discount this, because this is purity.’ ”

On his good points:
“What’s the same about us is not just that we’re from Massachusetts, which was such a delight, but Chris is truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, to the point where sometimes I would look at him and it would kind of break my heart. He’s really vulnerable, and he’s really straightforward. He’s like primary colors. He has beautiful, big, strong emotions, and he’s really sure of them. It’s just wonderful to be around. His heart is probably golden-colored, if you could paint it.”

On how she handled the breakup:
“I watched You’ve Got Mail so many times, it was unbelievable.”

Dave Chappelle Talks Stepping Away From Fame

Dave Chappelle recently sat down for an interview with Gayle King for CBS his Morning, where he talked about walking away from The Dave Chappelle show years ago. Here's what he had to say, as reprinted by Page Six:

“Fame, yeah, but not so much that I get on a plane to Africa. Fame is not that kind of scary. But it is – fame is a horrifying concept when it’s aimed at you, you know? At the end of the day, it’s so – you don’t have that much control over it. You just try to conduct yourself as best you can. ‘Chappelle’s Show’s’ like breakin’ up with a girl and you still like her. But in your mind you’re like, ‘That bitch is crazy. I’m not goin’ back.’

I found an altitude I was comfortable with. I found a way that – to do what I liked to do and avoid some of the parts of it that I was uncomfortable with. If you look at me, right, physically – now, I’m, like, 40 pounds heavier than I was when I did ‘Chappelle’s Show.’ And people are like, ‘How did you gain all that weight?’ By resting and eatin’ and payin’ attention to myself. I have actual relationships with my kids. I’ve been all over the country, touring all my life. But I never saw anything. Now I’ve seen everything. I could talk to people or I could – I had time to stop if someone said they liked me. It wasn’t like I brushed past ‘em like, ‘I don’t want to hear it.’ I had time to stop like, ‘You do?’ You know what I mean? It’s like – it was just, like, the way that I engaged the world was different.”

Blind Gossip Blind Item - The Gushing Minion

When this successful pop star first started out, she reminded people of this older and well-established pop star.

Older Pop Star found the comparison amusing. She even supported Younger Pop Star by attending one of her concerts.

Well, eventually Older decided that Younger was imitating her a little TOO much!

Older not only stopped supporting Younger… but the two started feuding! Mostly petty stuff, but it’s clear that the two don’t like each other.

Younger recently walked into a room where some of her minions were watching a some sort of video on the internet.

No, it wasn’t a performance by Older.

It was some sort of performance by Older’s DAUGHTER.

One of the the minions – who had worked for Younger for a couple of years – started gushing about how talented Daughter was and how it looked like Daughter would follow in Older’s footsteps and have a big career.

Uh oh.

Younger ordered the minion to turn off the video and for everyone to get back to work.

A couple of days later, in a short phone call, the gushing minion was fired.

The Gossip Life Blind Item - No Talking

This television show is currently airing and garnering a lot of eyes due to its juicy drama and although the show is entertaining, the set might challenge it in the "juicy" ranks.

There was a feud going on between one of the leading actresses and a supporting player on this ensemble cast, cultivating in the two being separated and not directly communicating.

So, tell me, Gossipers:

What is the show?

Who are the feuding cast members?

Karlie Kloss Challenges Herself

Karlie Kloss is on the cover of April's Vogue Australia. Here's what she had to say in the accompanying interview about launching her Kode With Klossy camp and career scholarship, which encourages girls to get involved in science, math and coding:

"Instead of giving up [modeling] because I was not challenged anymore, I actually reversed it on its head and saw all the opportunities to use this as a platform to do so many other things that I am passionate about, even if I don't have anything to do with fashion.

I feel a real responsibility to get the girls who are paying attention to me interested in these important skills that can transform their future and help bring them into an industry where there is a real disconnect and disproportionate number of men to women in the field. I underestimated how many girls would be aware of the importance of it and there are so many bright young minds who are aware of how powerful it can be to take part in shaping the future with technology.

On her future:
"I don't want to be complacent, and I don't want to just be one thing. I'm sure people underestimate me all the time, but that only motivates me to prove them wrong and to actually beat them at their own game. I have this sense of competition with myself to be the best I can at whatever I'm trying to do, and to take the path less trodden."
