Thank you guys so much for the birthday love. Another year, and a perfect moment to reflect as so many of us sit home with our thoughts. As we celebrate birthdays, more often than not we are asked what we want to receive. So on that note, I just wanted to share a few thoughts on what a “gift” is to me. A gift is not a thing. It’s a moment of laughter, a book recommendation, an online fermentation class, a compost recipe. A gift is time to put my hands in the soil, to feel free from the frenetic pace; the do-do-do now-now-now rhythm we’ve fallen into. It’s a moment to write. To read. To look inside for inspiration. It’s time. It’s not always tangible. (Unless it is the coconut cake,2 dozen cupcakes +almond flour cookies my friends +family who are suddenly super bakers dropped off which are SUCH a gift and SO tangible and not a crumb was left untouched😋) This year has been transformative for many of us, to say the least. There is a collective call to return to simplicity, to nature, to find our way back to connection as so many of us live such disconnected lives. A deep lesson we are all experiencing together is that happiness can’t be defined by what we have, and what we don’t. Happiness is purpose, it is love, it is community, and it is connection. This year has shown me that time is the treasure I cherish most. More time, less...stuff. So here is what I am calling in, and here’s the “stuff” I’m releasing. Less travel +more connection, less distraction +more anchoring. Smaller circles +more energy for those you hold close, less texting +more authentic communication, less stress more dancing, less splintering fragmenting fracturing + more intentional time. Less scrolling, and less desire...less. More writing, more reading, +more peace, breeding slower, more conscious movement. Slow-living. Slow-consumption. Consuming what we need, what we value. Scaling back, simplifying and shedding isn’t always easy. Letting go of friendships that no longer fit, philosophies we no longer subscribe to, tangible things that once held special meaning, identities that once defined us isn’t easy. Inner growth means shedding external layers. But that is my 32. 🖤
