Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66 after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu. The singer was hospitalized on Sunday after being found at his home, but was removed from life support. His manager released the following statement: “On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recently completed a summer tour last Monday with three nights at the Hollywood Bowl. Petty quit high school at the age of 17 to join the band Mudcrutch. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recorded a demo in 1975, which they released in 1976. In addition to his music career, Petty dabbled in acting.
