"I'm aware that my ass looks like a bag of flapjacks. But I'm not trying to be the best-looking broad in the world. At a certain point you start asking yourself, 'What really is sexy?' [...] If I believed that sexy was trying to be who I was when I did Basic Instinct, then we'd all be having a hard day today."
Martin Scorses's take on Sharon Stone:
"It's the old story: She's too beautiful to be a great actress. The cliché blinds you to the reality. I can tell you that there wasn't one day on the shoot of Casino that Sharon didn't surprise me. And that was a long shoot! What you're looking for, always, is not for someone to give you exactly what you envision but to surpass it, to use their own intelligence and instincts and imagination and talent to bring the character to life—actually, to get to a place where they're surprising themselves. That's the way it was with Sharon. She stunned me."
